Lots of recent work uses wastewater for disease surveillance. Turns out the same approach says a lot about a community's diet too. Duke and UNC pulled plant and animal DNA from sewage in NC communities: hops in wealthier areas, seafood along the coast. Underused, data-rich pipes.
