please you must understand this is not a mental breakdown this is my life now
I don't even know where to start. an insane jj history. lines are going everywhere, it's like 50 different changes, interdependent, but 36 of them come off of one branch then either lead to various megamerges or to other fixes

A week on and it's still working well; it required a gopls change (go.dev/cl/795221, hope that's released soon!). With 5 day pruning like Go does itself, that 5 day window leaves me sitting at about 150GB of cache, which comes out to about 20GB on disk. Very good!

Did a bit of hacking this weekend and cooked up "gocachez", a GOCACHEPROG which transparently compresses the Go build cache to save disk space at rest at the cost of CPU, with fairly good results. Building and testing TS would normally eat up roughly 4GB, but with gocachez it's only about 400MB.

This is a fun one: I just sent go.dev/cl/790740, which elides method wrappers for embedded types at offset zero, common for mixins/inherited data types. Doing this removes 60 _thousand_ method wrappers from tsgo's AST package, dropping the compilation of our main exe from 49s to 28s on my machine.
Benchmark 1: go build -a ./cmd/tsgo
  Time (mean ± σ): 48.992 s ± 0.274 s [User: 345.152 s, System: 12.545 s]

  Range (min … max): 28.075 s … 28.555 s 10 runs

State of TypeScript 7: Beyond the Port - Speaker
Last year, we shared the story of TypeScript's port to Go. A lot has happened since then: we've shipped TypeScript 6.0 as a bridge release, watched our native preview grow past 5 million weekly downloads. The port is done, but the work didn't stop there.

In this talk, we'll go beyond the port itself. We'll cover the new API surfaces we've built on top of the Go codebase, including a snapshot-based language server, cross-language IPC, and Wasm. We'll talk about how the community has adopted the new compiler, how we've ensured stability at scale, and what surprises and compromises came up along the way. We'll also share our continued experience writing Go; where the language and toolchain have gotten better for us, and where they sometimes haven't.

Did something fun; used @tinygo.org to shove @mvdan.cc's wonderful gofumpt into @dsherret.bsky.social's amazing dprint formatter via a Wasm plugin. We previously used an "exec" plugin to do this with go tool, but it was slow to run, and worse in parallel (and... Windows 😑). Now it's fast!
Benchmark 1: dprint fmt --incremental=false (branch = main)

  Range (min … max): 617.3 ms … 663.2 ms 10 runs

Reminder that I'm going to be at @squiggleconf.com in a couple of weeks to talk in probably too much detail about the Go port! If you aren't already going and can make it, definitely look into it! Lots of great talks on the agenda from some big names!

Tonight will be one of the best nightlies of the TypeScript Native Preview ever. 1) @andrewbran.ch fully rewrote the language server infra into a snapshot model. No more data races. It's so cool 2) Sheetal added build mode (-b), and it's even _concurrent_ build mode. 10x+ on dt-tools, hot and cold
Benchmark 1: node ./node_modules/typescript/lib/tsc.js -b . -f
  Time (mean ± σ): 4.204 s ± 0.057 s [User: 6.437 s, System: 0.533 s]
  Range (min … max): 4.142 s … 4.305 s 10 runs

Benchmark 2: /home/jabaile/work/TypeScript-go/built/local/tsgo -b . -f
  Time (mean ± σ): 377.8 ms ± 8.1 ms [User: 2827.7 ms, System: 453.3 ms]
  Range (min … max): 361.4 ms … 387.1 ms 10 runs

Summary
  /home/jabaile/work/TypeScript-go/built/local/tsgo -b . -f ran
   11.13 ± 0.28 times faster than node ./node_modules/typescript/lib/tsc.js -b . -f

Benchmark 1: node ./node_modules/typescript/lib/tsc.js -b .
  Time (mean ± σ): 1.247 s ± 0.016 s [User: 1.859 s, System: 0.252 s]
  Range (min … max): 1.232 s … 1.284 s 10 runs

Warning: Statistical outliers were detected. Consider re-running this benchmark on a quiet system without any interferences from other programs. It might help to use the '--warmup' or '--prepare' options.

Benchmark 2: /home/jabaile/work/TypeScript-go/built/local/tsgo -b .
  Time (mean ± σ): 120.6 ms ± 9.5 ms [User: 843.1 ms, System: 207.4 ms]
  Range (min … max): 111.8 ms … 156.0 ms 24 runs

Summary
  /home/jabaile/work/TypeScript-go/built/local/tsgo -b . ran
   10.34 ± 0.82 times faster than node ./node_modules/typescript/lib/tsc.js -b .
