I turned on exactly as England crossed the halfway line for their first goal, so from my view this has been a dominant performance from England

Two similar Tottenham games this week. Looked the better team for long spells, can't catch a break in finishing, decent shot volume, too many shots the other way, and some opposition worldies. Much if this is how it will be but some weeks we will score more than the opponent ha

Josh Kerr slightly outran his predicted finish of 13th there. This Ultimate Champs has been good, they just need to tighten up the data stuff on the broadcast. Lost count of the amount of times sport drops the ball on this, seriously: hire experts

Wouldn't say he's been massively impactful yet, but it's legit reassuring to have Robertson in at left back just for the decisions he makes in buildup / attack, as a guy who knows the role inside out

World Athletics Ultimate Championships and to the shock of nobody another huge L for "probability in sports broadcasts", with Werro (fastest in event since early 80s) given a 73% chance of qualifying, sure enough she eased through, let me bet those odds please

Happy with Savinho. He's ranked 2nd in the league behind Doku for Dribble and Carry OBV since arriving at City, and is young still. End product could improve but there's time for that.

Farewell Djed Spence, can't recall a player go from seemingly massive flop on the outs to really reliable contributor, but he was never quite first choice so can understand him moving on. Still one of the few success stories of last couple of years

Dominant from Karsten Warholm. In my mind the way he runs and strides, idk my brain has decided he's the double of Elon Musk, and then you see him actually and he doesn't look like him at all. #analysis

From a BBC article about a 17yo playing Robert Plant at chess and well... something of a wild early pawn move from Plant here 😬

Aw sad about Baresi. Consensus world's best defender throughout my childhood, and few sportspeople carry that kind of kudos for any period of time. RIP

Maybe maybe not but I like the idea that every team should have 1 veteran goalgetter in the squad

Is mid 30s league trained English striker with back-class the new 40yo league trained 3rd string English keeper? It's the hottest trend of the season.

RIP Kevin Keegan, you always got the sense he was a good guy, and just a guy who created moments both brilliant or absurd, but regardless we are poorer for him no longer being with us www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4Oz...

James Yorke @jair1970.com · 16/07/2026
Yeah, I thought England did ok with this but no doubt the core was the core and they played all the time, and that's gotta have had impact too

Mexico without air, 120 mins in a furnace then go again lads, easy. to win a world cup is brutal, you need to survive the schedule somehow

Good job everyone knows there's a lot of randomness in one football match, so no need to litigate all the decisions, just move on; live, laugh, love as the quote on this chalet wall says

Have felt England have played quiet periods in halves before, felt it strategic and expected better from them later. Didn't really happen v Norway, guess we find out if they have any gears now

headline on BBC site saying "celebrities sing Wonderwall before semi-final" with a picture of Michael Macintyre in an England shirt exactly represents the diversity of feelings I have about the success of this England team, whom I would like to win the World Cup but fear the aftermath

Literally none of the post game chatter here on ITV has mentioned the game being played in a furnace - which may have affected a lot of what happened - at direct odds with all the altitude chat from the Mexico game

Also typically [he states using vague memory as evidence] quarter finals are where World Cups peak, and we haven't had a really good one yet, so surely one of these two is chaos

I reckon England don't win that game without the hydration break. Comes right after the Mexico goal to go 3-2 and Tuchel has 3 minutes he'd never normally have to tee up what to do. Sure they'd have ended up in a low block anyway, but that additional time to get the message across likely key.
