I had only taken a bite, but my appetite evaporates until it is steam gusting from my ears. Color drains from my vision until the food is a taupe blur. There are no thoughts that remind me to be good; there is no impulse that freezes my arm from swiping the bowl to the floor. Noodles slop against the wall, warm broth splashes my ankles, and I don’t check if the bowl has broken badly, but glare at the table where my dinner once was.
