iirc for the longest time you could not disable the PRs tab on GitHub, so if a project doesn't want outside PRs the best you could do is note on your README or CONTRIBUTING file that you aren't accepting PRs (even if you can still technically open one)

polish invention of national importance: the czosndog. a hot dog whose bun is an entire garlic baguette. czosnek = garlic. split it, sausage in, cheese on top, bake. bacon, chilli and spring onion if you respect yourself. born on wykop in 2020, beloved since
a czosndog: garlic baguette as the bun, sausage inside, melted cheese, bacon bits, fresh chilli and spring onion on top, on a wooden board

has basically the same ui tho? I like the additional features, but nothing in betterbird addresses the janky Thunderbird UI

anyways that concludes this rant, I might elaborate and refine the contents here one day but for now here it is

3. if none of these are feasible, drop the store altogether the store as it is now is a net drain for the KDE project, better off dead than alive
101
Jahin Z. @jahinzee.net · 20/09/2026
my idea of fixing this is to: 1. bring the store in house, preferably cleaning up the infrastructure issues along the way 2. better moderation! remove the slop and instigate better controls on quality and security
100
Jahin Z. @jahinzee.net · 20/09/2026
and yea, it's convenient and very cool to have a built in storefront of themes and stuff to get ppl into customisation features but the quality of the overall store content is awful, gives me Microsoft Store vibes (filled with mid-to-low tier garbage with no cleanup actions in sight)

Jahin Z. @jahinzee.net · 20/09/2026
both the KGNS and the web frontends has absolutely no indication of things like deprecated or broken extensions
100
Jahin Z. @jahinzee.net · 20/09/2026
like idk if it's just me but this screams bodgey and disconnected, and doesn't really give users any confidence about what they can expect from the store, and if it's any good
100
Jahin Z. @jahinzee.net · 20/09/2026
3. who is flying this thing? the store is on a KDE.org subdomain, which gives it the project stamp of approval, but the infrastructure and everything is hosted by OpenDesktop/Pling (an organisation that also hosts other storefront projects, and a whole office suite or something apparently)
100
Jahin Z. @jahinzee.net · 20/09/2026
2. SO MUCH SLOP and not just AI slop, the content on there appears to be filled with autogenerated "the exact same lock screen layout but with a different wallpaper" type stuff is anyone even moderating there?
100
Jahin Z. @jahinzee.net · 20/09/2026
1. the Get New Stuff frontend is broken half the time, the web UI is an utter mess that is also broken half the time (good luck using the search bar, it's purely for decoration at this point)
100
Jahin Z. @jahinzee.net · 20/09/2026
controversial opinion: KDE would be vastly better off without the KDE Store as it exists now. (I'm talking about the built-in store where you can download themes and widgets and stuff)

Excellent bit
Given all the low-quality LLM-generated projects flooding r/commandline, it's valuable to know that POSIX provides a tool to review and modify code generated by LLMs, so I thought I'd bring this tool to the attention of this subreddit's members. In typical Unix fashion, the POSIX folks shortened "reviewing & modifying" to just two letters:

$ rm code.rs

It even has command-line options to recursively fix whole project-directories of LLM-generated code:

$ rm -rf project/

Handle it wisely, and I hope to see more use of it around here!

it seems YouTube's summary AI cannot comprehend the artistic beauty of "top 1000 cheese", simply reducing it to "love song compilation"
YouTube's AI-generated video summary of West Mashups' "top 1000 cheese":

"West Mashups presents a musical montage set to a medley of popular songs, contrasting lyrics about fractured relationships and intense love with imagery of various cheeses, prepared dishes, and Chuck E. Cheese locations."

who in the everloving hell thought it was a good idea to have two Python Discord API packages with incredibly similar names (`pycord` vs `py-cord`) ?? only differentiated by punctuation making looking up documentation and tutorials for them basically impossible

fair, but I would still not advise anyone running anything alpha in production or to hold important data unless they are **absolutely sure** about what they're doing, just on principle it's too risky, and it's also just more things you have to worry about if you want a system that just works
110
Jahin Z. @jahinzee.net · 24/08/2026
I strongly advise **against** KDE Linux it's in alpha, a lot of things don't work well or even at all, and you run the risk of breaking updates that break your system or even cause data loss – absolutely in no way suitable for beginners
