I'm not going to read his "official biography", but this invention, and associated patents, were led by a colleague and me, with the first granted before we even met Delo. It doesn't surprise me to see him overstating his contribution and diminishing that […] [Original post on social.linux.pizza]

Quote about Ben Delo from a recent article: "He was granted parents for several technologies he invented, including a software [sic] to automatically repair internet links to material that had been archived or moved, according to his official biography."

#EdFringe review: "Swamplesque" Loud, proud, body-positive, queer, drag burlesque based on the plot of the first Shrek movie. Impressive dancing and acrobatics - especially from the twink-ly mirror ball; helped by a loud sound system and an enthusiastic […] [Original post on social.linux.pizza]

#EdFringe review "Shoot from the Hip" The thing the young adults in our party wanted to see most (so I watched an episode on YouTube). Classic comedy improv, in the style of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Very impressively improvised a play with a proper […] [Original post on social.linux.pizza]

#EdFringe review **Police Cops: The Original** 3 guys put on an homage to 80s buddy action/cop comedies. Very fun, with good balance of improv riffs and scripts silliness. 4/5 🟠🟠🟠🟠⚪ www.edfringe.com/tickets/whats-on/p…

Classic action movie pose: three guys - from front to back: the silhouette of a Mexican baddy; a young rookie holding a gun; the flamboyant expert who's "too old for this shit".

#EdFringe review: **Biff to the Future** My favourite movie trilogy, retold from Biff Tannen's perspective in a lively, good-natured, funny, one man show. Probably one for people with a higher than passing knowledge of #BTTF though. 4/5 🟠🟠🟠🟠⚪ […] [Original post on social.linux.pizza]

Power loom built by T. Larmuth & Co., in Manchester, around 1860 - now at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry. > "By the early 19th century, new machines like this power loom could make cloth more quickly and cheaply than people. Groups of angry […] [Original post on social.linux.pizza]

A structure of iron and wood has cotton thread laced through it and looks like a sophisticated, but relatively simple, mechanism.

A great couple of days in #Liverpool coinciding with #LiverpoolPride Despite growing up in the North West, I've never gone out there before. 🌈 #Pride

A man, with more than a passing resemblance to Jack Black, performs on a guitar in front of the iconic wall at The Cavern Club

The lighting and wall decoration combine to give a rainbow effect, fitting for Pride.

Today I had cause to get out my old #Acorn #RISCOS 3 Style Guide to demonstrate that the fundamentals of good #UX can date back well over 30 years - same with the #Apple #HIG. I need to find a modern equivalent that clearly shows the basics for an "intro […] [Original post on social.linux.pizza]

Is it me or does he look like the Auton version of Mickey from the first episode of new #DoctorWho in 2005?

#FifthGenerationComputers will have "a trillion bits of memory". For those who can't do the maths, that's 125GB. The future of #RetroComputing given this was broadcast in 1984?

A slide shown by a professor, titled "Fifth Generation Computers".

Three circles are interlocked: "human problem" connects to "intelligent software" which connects to "machine hardware".

#BBC Four looks great tonight from 7pm, with #TOTP, "new" #DoctorWho and retro telly.

Screenshot of BBC iPlayer app showing tonight's schedule on BBC Four.

At 7pm, it's Top of the Pops from Christmas 1998. At 8pm we have Christmas episodes of The Good Life and To the Manor Born, before the newly colourised and edited version of the Second Doctor regeneration story, The War Games.
