I think the problem is that white people really don’t notice when a space is full of white people. Not from anything consciously malicious, but because that’s normal for y’all. But it’s so weird. So, so, so weird. You should know that and feel bothered by it.

What villainy is this? Next, you'll be inviting Andy Ngo F*cking Way.

Daniel, your work is much appreciated. Afaic, this isn't the devs' fault at all. I've been a dev on a solo team. I know what that's like. And I know y'all are working your asses off. But management needs to do some damage control immediately.

I am begging this team to hire an experienced trust and safety lead, and team, right now. I have been in gaming for decades. This is a known problem set. This is NOT the answer. We have literal giants of this space on this platform telling them that this isn't the answer. They just need to listen.

Welcome to the Good (well better but we're still working out some kinks) Place! I only knew you were here when I saw it in your email today.

I love the way Something Awful does it with The Leper's Colony. Everyone who's on probation or banned are on display:

A screenshot of the Something Awful forums' Leper's Colony page showing the users who are banned or on probation, what they did, and how long their punishment is, along with the names of the mods responsible for the decision.

Here's a more relevant article on cruise ships.

What if I told you cruising is worse for the climate than flying? - International Council on Clean T...

Vacationers take note: Even the most efficient cruise ships today emit more CO2 per passenger kilometer than a passenger jet.

I'm with you there. I just listed shows the first shows that came to mind until I ran out of characters. 😊 I could probably list another 30 that I love just as much.

This reminds me of the rats in The Amazing Maurice (#discworld). The rats didn't fear the dark and the shadows until they had fire. Before that they were perfectly happy living in the dark.

Southern hospitality demands that we share. Please do use it. The only time I get mad about it is when I hear someone in a movie use y'all for you singular.

time.com/5791028/how-to-pronounce-g…

Here’s a Timeline of the GIF vs. JIF Pronunciation Debate

The great pronunciation debate has been reignited

jaeya @jaeya.bsky.social · 12/07/2023

all true (genx) geeks know it's soft-g like jif pb. It was soft g to better flow off the tongue when you said gifs & jpegs. The creator of gifs, Steve White, has confirmed this. Believe me, back in the 90s, this wasn't even a debate. If someone said it hard g, you knew they weren't a dev.

jaeya @jaeya.bsky.social · 12/07/2023

Is that the Stallone movie?

jaeya @jaeya.bsky.social · 12/07/2023

Really? I'll see if ours has it then.

jaeya @jaeya.bsky.social · 12/07/2023

I looked them up. They're around the country. I'll have to keep an eye out.
