So I’ve been out in charge (temporarily) of my college’s archives and special Collections. I know a lot of folks use the language of “archive” metaphorically but I find myself in a very literal position!

I will be okay. Not because everything is fine, but because I am surprisingly difficult to destroy. Says Skeletor who notices being hard to destroy sure doesn’t mean a bunch of asshoes don’t keep trying.

I’m working through Jayna Brown’s idea of utopia without hope right now since it seems the inverse of my dystopia with hope. And her spatializing reading of Ernst Bloch is very interesting to me. I’m going to order hope draped in black right now as I’m working out from Muñoz into something else.

Though I largely eschew meloncholia as an affective lens - though I sometimes think of disgust - it’s interesting to me that my emergent impulse right now is “dystopian hope” - which is eerily close to what you have in your conclusion.

I was reading the description of the series and I don’t have anything on that right now but I have an emergent impulse in some of my newest writings that might be relevant if I ponder it more on “dystopian hope” in ways inspired by Muñoz, Tavia Nyong’o, and more and more by Octavia Butler.

I am learning a new language this summer. My supervisor looked at me studying it one day and said that it’s different now (in my forties rather than when I learned most of my ancient languages in my 20s) because less brain plasticity. I retorted: this is how I maintain brain plasticity!

Benediction: on this final day of pride, may you be blessed by being or knowing a queer or trans person, who reflect the image of god not despite being queer or trans but because they are queer and trans. In the name of the Nonbinary Parent, the Transgender Son, and the Genderfluid Spirit. Amen.

On this day of all days I will turn in this manuscript for peer review. Biological sex is variable (intersex folks prove this) and mutable (trans folks prove this). It has always been so and always will be. Those who say it binary and immutable ignore evidence in their extreme gender ideology.

I’m only thinking about it now because Brian Britt in a private communication recently challenged me to rethink my previous work on Moses. And, yeah, Exodus 34 is where I’m starting my rethinking of an encounter that transes boundaries of divine (shiny), animal (horns), and gender (veil).

Jaeda the Fabulous @jaedarising.bsky.social · 19/06/2026
I also avoided Moses’s transformation and veiling in my book on Moses. So now I’m wondering why I avoided exodus 34 in my previous book (on Moses) and until now in my current book (on posthuman transformations) where the episode is fairly perfect for my approach?
