I feel many people think (read:hope) that this has all been some kind of sociological natural disaster. Like when an earthquake ends, you start rebuilding. I see it as more of a Skrull invasion. Powerful people have been replaced with malicious agents or eliminated, and we've only just started.

It's because Trump does not have to care. Ever. There are no consequences and no highly credible likelihood that there ever will be. Caring about literally anything but himself is neither relevant nor a priority to him. It wouldn't make sense for a person like him to make it one.

To be fair, it's not unreasonable for him to be careful - he's incited quite a bit against himself. He also could be trying to save face, and going there wasn't his choice. Secret service going to secret service. He is a horrible man. But know thine enemy.
