It’s okay. If that is what they need to heal I am all in. Not in some self-pitying way but in a way that says “if you aren’t speaking to me then at some level you are acknowledging your trauma and that is so fucking wonderful. I couldn’t stop this. Give it your best shot”.

I did a lot of damage to my kids. A lot. I was a drunk. And a survivor of CSA and other trauma. So I did damage. I’ve also gotten help by getting sober and getting lots and lots of ongoing therapy. All of which allows me to say that my kids cut me off. At least one currently is doing that.

There was a long term study of kids in trauma situations. The single common point the researchers found for the subsequent more stability in life was one concerned, invested adult. A grandparent, a teacher, just someone who saw them..
