This is provably not true. There are cities which have achieved zero deaths for multiple years at a time while still allowing cars.

Alternative phrasing:
Crying wojak: no you have to understand this is a very complicated system There are too many uncontrolled variables. we must accept certain downsides.

Chad: Every road death is preventable

I do not know whether 0 road deaths is achievable via autonomous vehicles alone, but it is achievable. There are places that have already done it. We must remember that today's level of air safety was also unfathomable in the 1970s.

We literally already have a model of how to treat this and it is the airline industry which, even with the FAA's issues in recent years, has a remarkable record. A world where every death is preventable even if not every death is prevented.

I am saying that it is very interesting to learn that this *a* way to construct congnition.

I am merely speaking about their ability to solve novel problems or complete tasks which, for humans, certainly require reasoning/cognition.

Bread @jacobreaded.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
You are reading from my words something I haven't written. I did not say that they necessarily give insight into human cognition. Merely into cognition itself. It is possible they achieve this thru an entirely different process than humans do and I agree that we definitely do not know for sure.

This is why religious statements on about AI like the pope's encyclical have been the most cogent public positions. They have a really clear ontology about this and have spent literally thousands of years thinking about stuff like physicalism vs dualism.

How analogous any of the mechanisms by which LLMs achieve this capability are to human cognition I do not know. But whether they are similar or different, both are interesting I think.

Bread @jacobreaded.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
From a functional perspective I think LLM's problem solving abilities are something I would call a type of reasoning/cognition. If you want to call LLM's ability to do this by a different name from when humans do it, that's fine I suppose, but I don't think that is a very helpful definition.

Also, in a tremendous blow to me personally, LLMs have definitively proven that 1) both mathematics and programming are actually wordcel activities 2) a lawyer is actually a type of SWE, so I can no longer accuse @theophite.bsky.social of stolen valor. I am holding on to sanity by a thin thread.

LLMs have shown a bunch of things I had thought of as being fun/interesting metaphors about cognition are literally true. Like finding out 'time heals all wounds' is a property of general relativity because a startup used this to make real life MedBeds and is now worth $1tn.

Tbh the ideal security posture is to have one red team allowed to smoke crack and one not and you let them meet once per quarter at that building they have in the Korean DMZ to see what the other is up to.

It's funny that providers in general seem to strike very different tunes when they seem actually worried about assuring enterprise customers and/or a concern that one of those customers might attempt to steal their weights that they spent billions on.
130
Bread @jacobreaded.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
And this is the one that model providers seem actually concerned about. I mean maybe they have a separate red team smoking crack elsewhere thinking about purely thermal exfil, but that's not the one they seem to be spending time and money on.
1141
Bread @jacobreaded.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Yeah I mean that idea is kinda silly, but the actual risk is that the model gains some escalated privilege on e.g. the service accounts which install the model weights onto the machine and then uses that to exfiltrate the weights either on its own behalf or via user initiated jailbreak.

I suppose so? Tbh I do not think it is obvious how much this would help with spatial reasoning! We often think about spatial and verbal intelligence as separate quantities in humans. LLMs were quite bad at this only a few months ago!

While I think it still remains to be seen if language itself is the core of human cognition, I would say it would have been non obvious to me until recently that you could take language itself and use it to reverse engineer the rest of human cognition/capability.

Incredibly funny that the only AI generated art that has yet had any cultural impact is the "We Are Charlie Kirk" song. Cannot decide if this says something important about society.

The approach I ultimately landed on is that it is actually a kind of "data processing" which would also include services like AWS MediaConvert, but which would not cover most normal request-prices saas.

A funny way that this came up recentl: I was asked by the tax team to come up with a definition of AI tokens that included all metered token usage but didn't use the words 'AI' or 'token' and also didn't include saas or saap products so as to avoid having tokens subject to software sales tax

NYC just needs a police chief with the right bona fides. Maybe an ex-cop who was an outsider and has been known for reporting other cops for racial discrimination/misconduct. Preferably would be someone familiar with NYCs various ethnic communities and their politics.

Yeah people are acting like it's idiotic the idea that weights could be copied, but I can tell you from first hand experience that weight exfiltration is something that model providers spend a non-trivial amount of time worrying about and it is not a problem that is easy to solve.
