Well ... I've always wanted a skylight. Just didn't think this is how it would happen. Unfortunately because of where the fire was, we weren't able to move anything that was salvageable out of the apartment today while investigations continue.
A living area heavily damaged by a ceiling collapse. Large chunks of drywall, insulation, and blackened debris completely bury a gray sofa. A large landscape canvas has fallen onto the wreckage, and an overturned lamp rests nearby. Exposed framing and insulation hang from a gaping hole in the ceiling above.A modern kitchen with severe ceiling damage. A large section of the ceiling has collapsed above the dark wood cabinets, with jagged drywall, brown insulation, and metal framing hanging down. Plaster and debris are scattered across the granite countertops and stainless steel stove.A wide shot of an open-plan home showing extensive ceiling collapse spanning from the kitchen into the living room. Torn drywall and insulation hang down in multiple areas, with debris covering the floor, a wooden dining table, and the living room furniture. A person wearing a blue t-shirt, cap, and a black face mask stands on the left side of the room observing the damage.

You'd think these scenes were from a nice, crisp fall day, but it's 100 degrees, and we've had 47 straight days with no rain. It's bad. #txwx

Smoke from the wildfire out past Palo Pinto has made its way to Fort Worth. It's real bad. The last time I can remember smoke being this bad in DFW was 2007, I think.
Hazy sky over a UNT Health campus parking lot, with the downtown Fort Worth skyline barely visible through smoke haze in the distance. A white Southland service van and several parked cars sit in the foreground, framed by tree branches and 'Health Education' campus banners.View from a high-rise window showing a smoke-hazy Fort Worth skyline, with downtown high-rises faded into the haze. In the mid-ground, the geodesic dome of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and surrounding cultural district buildings are visible among trees and roadways.

Starting to see the smoke from a wildfire over 60 miles away. It was only a matter of time before it happened in North Texas with how stupid hot it's been this month.
Sunset over a suburban neighborhood, with smoke from a distant wildfire forming a dense grey layer along the horizon and turning the setting sun a vivid bright red.

Good morning from this morning’s run!
A vibrant orange sunset over a tranquil pond. The bright sun is low on the horizon, casting a glittering, golden reflection across the gently rippling water. In the center distance, a water fountain sprays upwards. The far bank of the pond is lined with a dark silhouette of various trees, and grassy banks border the water in the foreground.

Welp. We've officially hit the point in the year where I start to question my life choices, namely why the hell I still live here.
Color-coded heat map of North Texas showing apparent temperature (heat index) readings at 12:45 PM on July 22, 2026, covering a wider area from Eastland and Cisco in the west to Tyler and Athens in the east. Readings have climbed sharply from the 9:15 AM map, with most of the DFW metro core now at 112–117°F, including Dallas (117°F), Fort Worth (112°F), Allen (117°F), and McKinney (117°F). Western counties like Eastland and Cisco remain cooler in the low 100s. The map is shaded dark red to near-white in the hottest zones, indicating extreme, dangerous heat index values. Welp. Someone’s having an extremely bad Monday. (As far as I could see, no one was hurt and I don’t think it had spread to the building yet.)
A white van is engulfed in flames and thick black smoke in the parking lot of a modern brick and siding apartment building. The fire is concentrated on the front half of the van, with bright orange and yellow flames visible. Dark smoke billows upwards, obscuring the side of the apartment building and a small tree. The apartment building has multiple floors, dark window coverings, and balconies. Other parked cars are visible further down the parking lot, and a "SPEED LIMIT 5" sign stands near the burning van.
