If you want to use AI, use AI. No one is stopping you. All the policy being drafted requires is that you tag it as AI generated. Nothing more, nothing less. That's basically as mild as it gets.

Now we had even more people work on a single world all at the same time while we made Defenders of Arcane Valley, and it was the most fun I've had on Resonite so far. The performance improvements are incredible, and anyone who tells you otherwise hasn't worked on Resonite prior to the update.

Before the splittening, working with a large-ish group on a world was PAINFUL. Like, when we made Cloudscape Harvest I remember often going into shout announcing that I'm going to unpack a large amount of code to prepare everyone for the lag spike. We had to split up into multiple work sessions.

Resonite is kind of a in a unique position because in most other UGC content games, players often can't look into / modify content that was made by other players. Often UGC made by others is just presented "as is". So I do think this could have a significant positive effect in the long run.

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 9h
While that is true, in-game profiling tools could also help some people diagnose performance issues in content made by others, and due to Resonite's collaborative nature, they could help those people optimize their content.

Using a shader might be overkill, perhaps something like what @sv40.bsky.social made using blend shapes could work for you too, the result was very good x3 I'm sure the technique translates to VRChat. bsky.app/profile/sv40...

Their goal seems to be shifting the goalpost as much as possible and distracting from the actual point. Whether you like it or not, generative AI has a lot of ethical, social, economical and environmental issues. It should be regulated, and *only* requiring you to tag it is already a compromise.

It's bothering me that a lot of pro-AI voices in the discussion surrounding Resonite adding mandatory tagging for AI generated content don't want to realize that mandatory tagging is ALREADY the middle ground solution between allowing AI and banning AI. And still, it's seemingly too much for them.

The bigger problem I see here is a financial one. It seems some people on either side are stopping financial support to prove their point. Unless the "winning" side in the end increases their financial support, no matter where the line is drawn, Resonite will have lost support.

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
So the question is, if neither side is willing to compromise, what's the point of discussion anyway? The team needs to draw a line and stick to it. They can decide that by listening to feedback, but I don't think there's a solution that doesn't involve people getting upset on either side.

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
To be fair, people might also want to just stay out of the discussion. Seeing how hard this stuff has wrecked my mental state in the past two weeks, I honestly can't blame them. This discussion is so polarized that I don't even think there is a viable middle ground both "sides" would accept.

I never wanted any of this to happen. Had I known this GitHub issue would tear the entire community apart, I would have never opened it. But the damage is done, and I have to recognize the fact that I've probably done more damage to this community than anyone prior. I'm really sorry for that.

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I hope this situation will be resolved soon. People need to chill and start considering how others feel when a debate gets this heated. I'll return after this has cooled off, or once I'm feeling like I'm not at risk of getting sucked into this again. I feel bad for leaving this mess behind though.

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
And not gonna lie, seeing a team member defending the person that got restricted after harassing me hurt too, but the bigger issue I see there is a team member publicly questioning moderation decisions of another team member. Internal conflicts should be sorted out prior to public communication.

It doesn't help that I've had a bit of an unstable state of mind going into all of this for personal reasons. The worst part was constantly seeing my name and profile picture come up in pro-AI contexts which I really don't want to be associated with, because it's in the embed of that GitHub issue...

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
After explicitly asking people not to mention me in it anymore yesterday, because it was getting too much for me again, someone straight up immediately mentioned me in response, seemingly making fun of me trying to step away. Not cool, in my opinion this crossed the line towards harassment.

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I realized this wasn't good for me a week ago when I started loosing sleep over it. I tried to step back, but as the owner of the issue, kept getting notifications. Even unsubscribing from the issue didn't help, because GitHub auto-subscribes you again when you get mentioned, which happened a bunch.

The discussion also kept going in circles, people ended up contradicting each other, while simultaneously trying to steer away from my actual request. Seriously if you have ideas that are different from a given request, PLEASE make your own request, don't try to take over an existing one.

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
A lot of the messages I was responding to read like they came straight out of a language model, not written by actual humans. Still I tried to stay professional, but the entire thing was flooded with wall of text after wall of text with lots of words, but very little content.

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
When people start discussing under an issue I created, I try to keep up and respond. But this was not something I was ready for. People kept trying to derail the discussion from the request, attempting to keep the discussion on track felt like ramming face first into a concrete wall at times.

I'm going to force myself to take a few steps away from Resonite for a while, I'm not sure how long yet. I really care about the platform, but the last two weeks have been seriously mentally draining for me. It's hard to keep up when a half-a-year old GitHub issue suddenly blows up like this.

If this was his first term, I'd agree. Since people actually voted for him *twice* though, despite knowing what they were voting for the second time, I'm not as hopeful.

The policy is still being worked on. You're free to leave your own feedback, but perhaps wait until it's actually finalized before drawing conclusions what is and isn't included. If you see something missing in the latest draft, add your own input.

Also one more thing before you ask - no, I don't use AI to write code Resonite. I take pride in designing the architecture of the systems on my own and the code is written by hand (save for some boiler-plate autocomplete or meta-programming generated code). I like build things for long term.

I'm not a big fan of generative AI myself, but what's the worst about it, that regardless of my opinion on it, it makes it really difficult for small companies like us to survive. On one hand, we have people who want it banned completely. On other we have a chunk of people who use it a lot.

Moderation didn't say "not our job", this policy is literally being drafted by the head of moderation. But it also has to be enforceable, hence the requirement for evidence. I honestly think what they've drafted so far sounds pretty good and realistic.

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
They outlined in the latest draft of the policy what the process might look like when someone reports a world not disclosing generative AI usage. The report needs evidence, then the world creator receives a message and has 14 days to update the tags, if this doesn't happen the world is delisted.

Resonite is the first social VR platform (to my knowledge) that's working on a mandatory generative AI disclosure policy and implementing tools to tag & filter generative AI content. So I'm not too worried. The entire heated debate around it is just very exhausting.

In fact it looks like Resonite is on course to be the first social VR platform (to my knowledge) that actually has an AI content disclosure policy. Don't get me wrong I'm very sick of the entire debate, and am taking a break from Resonite until it cools off a bit, but I'm not worried about that.

JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I don't fully understand the source of your concern, since they have been pretty clear that the policy they are working on will require generative AI content to be tagged as such. Yes there is a heated debate, but it doesn't look like the mandatory tagging part is negotiable for them.

No they are not. Lizzy is 100% human-made, there is no language model or anything like that inside, just a backend server with a database.

I'd recommend simply following Godot's tutorials a bit. There's also GDQuest which is an interactive tutorial aimed at beginners, which I think was quite well made when I looked at it.

Interesting. The original BGE was the first engine I did make a "game" in (if we exclude Windows .bat scripts), way before I could even write code. You can get surprisingly far by just copying stuff from the internet without really knowing what you're doing x3 (But that was in like, 8th grade.)

Although I do really like Godot's object-oriented approach to scene hierarchy. GDScript should also be relatively easy to get into, and they have excellent tutorials and documentation. I want to make more with Godot. I need to get back around to that some time...

But yeah, visual scripting wise I'm not sure there are good engines except Unreal with its blueprints, but from what someone that did work with it told me, well, it's not great. Godot is definitely a good engine to learn into. Unfortunately they abandoned their visual scripting language a bit ago.

I'll continue advocating for less hate and more openness and collaboration, as that's what Resonite should be all about. Personal disputes sometimes happen. But that's why Resonite has in-game moderation / blocking tools. Those instances don't reflect on the entire community though.
040
JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
When you feel someone is harassing you, please file a moderation ticket. That's what moderation is there for. Harassment has no place on Resonite. But then also, if you were hurt by how people have treated you, if you in turn now hurt others in "revenge", that isn't going to help anyone.
120
JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I understand that your prior experiences have tainted your perception of the community. I'm just trying to provide an alternative perspective and show this is the exception rather than the norm. Still, your experience was a bad one, and I'm sorry about that.
120
JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
But Resonite also thrives from collaboration, and when I see someone struggling, I walk up to them and help them out. In most cases the problems can be solved very quickly, and then the user is happy. That's what Resonite's community is all about. Helping each other. It's a social game, after all.
120
JackTheFoxOtter @jackthefoxotter.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Resonite is still unfinished, and especially the in-game menus and creation process are often a friction point. New users struggling with this aren't "dumb", it's legitimately just difficult to understand, because most of it is still placeholder and hasn't been properly implemented yet.
