DYK our airports (and many other buildings) have storm shelters that were converted from Cold War nuke shelters and still retain the signs from that era

I quite enjoy being in tornado alley where every storm is a potential call to the agencies™️

I stand corrected, the fire originated in a hydrocracking unit. That would actually correlate more with what witnesses reported due to the sound and intensity of the fire rather than a leaking liquid fire, the unit is shown below and is slightly northwest of that vessel I mentioned above

It would be wild if there was, perhaps, an entire program mediated by the EPA and OSHA to regulate highly hazardous materials that was also extended to include refineries and an organization had recommended the NFPA reclassify refinery products. Unfortunately such a program does not exist!

In another refinery incident there was a circulation pump located just under the white circular vessel you see in this image that failed. From the description of the event and the location, I’d take an estimated guess and say pipeline failure or some sort of flange failure.

On another note, the CSB report should be good. I do enjoy refinery investigations

The 1tb hard drive on my desk begs to differ, mr. osha/epa inspector man. I do in fact have your interpretation letter here…

The EPA is cool and all as an agency and I get why my company is potentially a bit hesitant to allow open dialog with them but… they’re just a bunch of fellas. The dudes, even. Wader-wearing, rather weird, “I found a cool bug during my inspection of your facility” girlies

Oh I see it is a severely worn away hook from a transmission tower that sparked and started the fire which destroyed the town of Paradise, thanks. Anyway, love those guys over at PG&E. They’ve never done anything wrong idk why you guys pick on them so much

By midwest standards where things are designed to break and then rebuilt easily (tornado alley and such), I am routinely impressed that we do not lose power more often. Strangely the most severe power outages we have are often from MVAs…

Is that “value” given in the form of figuring out how to perform basic life functions in the 21st century with no electricity?

We had .82” of rain in less than five hours and we didn’t have a single power outage here AND my internet connectivity even remained intact. PG&E is a silly goose

Aftermarket solutions to problems that shouldn’t exist is, unfortunately, a familiar process.

Sometimes I have a very specific way I want to say something but I can’t think of the word I need so I use a synonym but it pisses me off internally even though it probably sounds fine to whoever I’m talking to. Probably not relatable at all just thought about my internal dialogue problems smh

I guess I am rude then because every time someone says anything even remotely related to hazardous materials it is almost an involuntary word vomit.

Silver nitrate, friend. Not elemental mercury. Silver nitrate is nothing to be concerned about, really. Unless you’re stupid with it.

Keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Regen/maintenance on a Jerome is… expensive. Even a used one. Although a shelf model that is rarely used would probably not need that very often…

Just read the @funranium.bsky.social blog post about the shrimp situation finally and I find myself reminiscing about decontamination procedures. Please do not ever buy elemental mercury. These things are definitely not related in any way. I will not be elaborating on this
