I honestly think they’re flailing. They never expected it to get this far. That’s why they’re threatening wider UK investment; they’re not used to being confronted like this.

Yeah, I think they’re throughly and rightly screwed.

Totally. They can’t deny the facts because it happened exactly as the Premier League described.

Another good performance by Koumas. He needs to improve his end product, but there’s a player in there. #LFC

It’s definitely possible that their defence so far has been entirely obstruction. They’ve saved this in their back pocket like it’s a get out of jail free card. Weren’t me, guv.

I don’t see how they get out of it. Even CAS wouldn’t overturn this.

We used to refer to them as shareholder loans. Money from the government that kept the business afloat. Only some were timed very specifically around commercial obligations.

Their basis for their appeal is factually correct—that’s exactly where the money came from—but he is indistinguishable from the Abu Dhabi Government. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...

Man City appeal: Club will argue sponsorship deals came from Abu Dhabi government
Manchester City's appeal against the Premier League's verdict hinges on the club's claim that its sponsorship deals came from the Abu Dhabi government.

They’re part of the scheme but basically unwilling partners. Sure, they benefit from the sponsorship, but no one there has a say in how that is valued. They’re simply passing on the money.

I used to work at one of the sponsors. Never had a to sign an NDA but I worked with people who did. It was a known thing where the money was coming from.

They also didn’t stop in 2017/18. I know it was definitely going on in 19/20. I’m sure it’s still happening today.

It’s maddening. They’re definitely guilty. Their only defence can be, “your rules are wrong.”

Ben Jackson @jacksobc.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Honestly, I’d say £900mn is a conservative estimate. And it continued on well beyond the 17/18 season. It still persists today.

Ben Jackson @jacksobc.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Excellent statement from the EPL and Martin is exactly right. It’s unclear to me why the cut off is the 2017/18 season because the behaviour of the sponsors and ADUG did not change from that point forward.

Guilty. It’s absolutely beyond doubt as well, so hopefully the appeals won’t go anywhere. And now we wait for the punishment…

This article makes it sound like Eggers knows Old English isn’t the same as Shakespearean English. And the whole thing does sound very Eggers. As you say, it feels like bait Eggers has laid out to cause exactly this social media reaction.

Hong Shao Rou / Red Braised Pork Belly. Basically sticky and sweet popcorn pork. Utterly delicious. Served it with a wood ear mushroom salad (Xiang Cai Mu Er) and hot and sour courgettes (Tang Cu Yi Da Li Gua). #foodsky 🍜🍽️
It’s a close up photo of a white bowl full of braised pork belly. It’s a deep red colour and sticky with a sugar and soy based sauce. Traces of the sauce cling to the side of the bowl. It’s a photo of a pile of wood ear mushrooms with plenty of red chilli and garlic. The sauce of black vinegar and chilli oil really makes the dish zing. It’s another bowl with thin slices of courgette/zucchini that have been salted and stir fried with garlic and black vinegar. A nice release when the chilli hit of the mushrooms gets too much.

Increasingly I think selling him to Chelsea for £100mn is an be of the few ways we get out of this. We just operate better as a team with Dom at 10. That said, Wirtz seemed to have a genuine connection with Ekitike, so maybe that works. But I don’t know how you play those two, Isak, and Barcola…

This week’s Song Exploder is terrific. Paula Cole gives the smallest glimpse of what it’s like to be a woman in the music industry and it’s brutal. A song that always deserved attention beyond its theme tune status.

Agreed on the defence. It’s too early to draw conclusions, but I don’t see Wirtz forming the same connection with Isak that he has with Ekitike. I think it’s also hard to argue that Cakpo should be dropped given he’s our most reliable forward. It feels a mess up top.
