London have always been my 2nd favourite team. I remember they lost to Goole Vikings in the cup just a year earlier so have improved lots. Salary cap issues & NRL influence are great points. England squad announcement today will make the headlines for a day or two (no Jake rumour etc)

Disappointing to read that Bradford Bulls can't/won't spend the necessary £ to return the Odsal pitch to normal dimensions for next year. Maybe Jake Connor could have a pop at goal from inside his own 40 metre line but the lack of a monied-up backer hits again

The late Steve Laws, a top bloke who was also a well known doorman in Bradford. Steve signing for Halifax along with Albert Hannah & Dave Cholmondeley helped me to get a Pennine Cup Winners Medal aged 16 for Dudley Hill against West Bowling in 1978.

Watching an old Doctor Who the other night, I cheered when I heard my favourite ubiquitous 1970s BBC sound effect. It was almost the Beeb's equivalent of 'The Wilhelm Scream', as it would turn up regularly in stuff from kid's shows to sitcoms to serious TV dramas. Smashing!

Didn't say much on that training week & just got on with what needed doing. Think Ged was a year younger than most lads so understand why. Top utility player and up there with David Major, Mark Thomas, Geoff Pryce & Ian Birkby of the troops that achieved more than I did that Summer

That fella is a curse on Bradford fans for at least a couple of reasons I can think of! Went on a GB U19 training camp in 1979 that included Ronnie Braithwaite and Ged Byrne. I never made the international team v Australia in Jan 1980 but those future Pies had turned pro by then I think

Was told that Andy Greg was paid 7 grand to join Widnes which was much more than the 2 grand and a 'car' that tempted Ellery to go to Odsal as 17 year olds. Heard that Shauno had a signing on fee of £35000 around 5 years after those two (worth it too)!

The best bloke I ever played against or with! Was only at U16 school level but our Captain was Brian Noble and there were a handful of other BARLA rep players (including me) and soon to be professionals. Such a strong athlete even then and didn't need to pass too often haha

Went to a Regal Trophy game at Central Park in the early 90's and went to The Griffin for a pre game beer. Sir Billy sat at the bar made me think this guy is a true legend. Only Murphy, Neil Fox (saw 'em play) and Ellery (played against him once) made me think this. RIP

He caught Connor Wynne easily in the recent Rovers v Bulls game but badly fluffed the tackle giving Connor a 90 metre special. Not the all round player fans hoped for at one time. Bradford are away at Toulouse next up so I'm not gonna give Ryan too much stick haha

Agreed pal, it's the dry weather more than motor sports right now. Stock Cars was terminated just before the start of this season and not in time to make the pitch full dimensions (next season has been assured). Speedway ended in the 90's
