This is good: “Is it progress to have solutions to problems that don’t exist?”

Bought a book of computer cartoons by Eldon Dedini published by Microsoft in 1985. Many are still relevant despite the 41 years

I was trying to get to the internet broadway database (Ibdb) and autocorrect kept changing it to the internet movie database (IMDb). I could not input the URL without it switching it

How I arrived at Bluesky?
Drivers and emergency workers gather around a Figure 8 car with Bad Blue written over the rear window. An ambulance is parked behind and to the left of the car

21F degrees above the average high for the day in October. Shame about this massive global cooling down

Do people actually say "absolute cinema" or is that a manufactured expression?

‘Ciao’ comes from a shortening of a northern Italian word meaning, literally, "slave." It was used as a polite greeting meaning something along the lines of “I am your servant.”

While visiting the US Mint website to check on the availability of Trump coins, I found the front page has comic art coins and medals with various DC heroes. Pricey, but probably more rewarding in the long run

People have been commenting that they had thought Jim Bakker had died years ago, but no, he has just been grifting on a smaller scale. I thought they might have been thinking of Jimmy Swaggart, but when I checked, he had just died last year at 90. Maybe Jerry Falwell who died in 2007

The post a movie that was made before you were born that you’ve seen multiple times is too easy. Maybe a movie that was a hit before your mother was born* would be better * Though she was born a long, long time ago

Kidrobot usually makes vinyl figures for collectors or at least they used to. So it’s weird it’s at Walmart. Target at least has a section for collectibles aimed at adults, but maybe Walmart shelves them with kids toys.

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com
As we join the great theoretical scientist, he is deep in thought. So still, quiet and focused that he might almost be asleep. But inside that brilliant mind, what new idea is forming? What certainty is being meticulously interrogated? What ingenious theory is ready to change our world forever? (the scientist snores lightly) Ah, it seems he actually is asleep. And that's fine. Science is hard and not every day can be a success. We will come back another time.

I was trying to remember an Outer Limits episode that scared me as a child for this meme that's been going around, but I'm not having much luck. Probably The Probe which was the final episode of the original series. The giant microbe spooked me a lot

I see the Jets finally got an interception after 21 games. It reminds me of the Baltimore Oriole who lost their first 21 games in 1988. Teams hated to play them because no one wanted to be the first team they beat. Looks like Tyson Bagent gets the honor of being intercepted by the Jets

I used to like a site that does online quizzes. Still go back once in a while, but they've had to go heavily towards ads. (They had a subscription you could do, but maybe not enough people did that.) The problem is that they have ads that sometimes take over the screen as you're taking a quiz!

Johnny Carson had a stock character called Floyd R. Turbo who would turn up to given an “equal time” response to a news program’s editorial and he was a straight up MAGA prototype. Social media just gives people who were local institutions a bigger platform

My latest books cartoon for @theguardian.com
Title: Just announced! Three new Gruffalo books commissioned from bestselling authors!

Lee Chilld:
The Gruffalo just wants a quiet life, but when a crime syndicate moves into the deep dark wood, he must use his terrible claws and the terrible teeth in his terrible jaws to protect the fellow.

Sally Rooney:
The Gruffalo moves to contemporary Dublin. He
ill ever see past his orange eyes, purple prickles and poisonous wart.

Kazuo Ishiguro:
After a long absence, the gruffalo returns to the forest and attempts to make sense of his past. Encounters with a mouse, a fox, an owl and a snake uncover long-buried memories, regrets and revelations.

OK, "lawyered up" makes sense on a TV police procedural when an ordinary suspect gets legal representation. It does not make sense when discussing large/significant entities like corporations, organizations, and universities. So Cornell cannot "lawyer up" because they're always heavily "lawyered"

Also the obvious joke: "Skydance? Skynet would have been more appropriate!"
000
Jack Lint @jacklint.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
The problem with Skydance is that Sundance and Moondance are already established and so it sounds like a bad copy. Also Sky Dancers were a line of flying toys from the mid-90s. (And those were recalled by the manufacturer because they were dangerous toys causing 100 reported injuries)

I think the one thing that we can agree on is no one knows what this winter will be like. I've seen some forecasts where it's going to be bitterly cold and others where it's possible we don't have much of a winter at all. Probably just like any other year, but with more mentions of El Niño
