So after 20+ years and replacing the "brains" 3x, we finally replaced our double oven bc once again, only one oven was working and it's coming up ok Thanksgiving. This beauty was installed today, and I am giddy with delight!

The Mediterranean diet didn't have much effect on my bad cholesterol (only down from 99 to 98), but I've lost 15lbs in 6mos. On the one hand, this is great. On the other, I'm low-key mad that it's working. Partly bc I really want a cheeseburger and fries, damnit.

What you're saying is that there is no way to make AI models safe. Now, I personally don't accept that. But if it IS true, all AI models must immediately be banned bc they represent an unacceptable security risk.

The company I work for develops software to run banks and credit unions. When we add AI to our products, we have to know it can't "escape" bc at best, it could violate the law and at worst, take down the financial system. And if those things happen, the company (humans) would be responsible, not AI.

the material differences between guns and AI models are pretty clear, and the obvious precedent here seems to be animals: if you trained an animal to bite (or raised a wild animal) and kept it insufficiently secured, nobody thinks accountability stops with punishing the animal

I don't know how many times I need to say this or who needs to hear it, but software cannot "go rogue." There is a term in the software industry for a situation in which a program does something it's not supposed to. We call it a bug, and we have to fix it.

You're falling for it. LLMs are software programs that execute instructions. They aren't "thinking" or "reasoning" any more than MS Word is thinking/reasoning when you press Ctrl-B to bold a word. They do what they are programmed to do, nothing more.
