Got a little commemorative card with my screening of The Devils. Also one projector broke during the final reel change so we had a couple of minutes of rowdy appreciation in the dark before the final act.

Damn, that's a shame. I'd probably have considered it.

Filling up nicely but not as crazy as when a real crown jewel of cinema shows up, like Zach Cregger's Resident Evil (2026).

Seated nice and early (not as hectic as I expected) for The Devils on 35mm. Still kinda crazy this is actually happening, and not on some scuzzy VHS workprint either.

Ducking out to the bathroom during a screening of The Devils and missing the Rape of Christ scene.

This quote is one reason we thought it so funny when we named our cat after the author and later got a card in the mail from the vet saying "Mr. John Banville is due for his rabies shot."

I was wondering what even size is good for mailers for standard Blus with a slipcase etc. Like I said, I bought some envelopes at Staples recently that were marked specifically for movies and they were too small for even a standard Blu.

I was just wondering if there's any particular brand you've found reliable that doesn't break the bank.

For selling on Blu-rays etc. via mail, does anyone have some tips on good envelopes/mailers to use plus other packaging tips. My offload pile is beginning to overwhelm me and half my delay is the last set of disc mailers I bought couldn't actually hold a standard Blu-ray.

Good deals? Bad deals? Deals that were just setting things back the way they were prior to Trump declaring he wanted to make a deal? Who's counting?

Doing everything in this game truly sounds like a punishment. At one point in the story I was landed at a strip club so I got a lapdance because sure, let's see how that's changed since part IV, and it's a fucking Red Light, Green Light mini-game! Who wants that? Who is that for?

Thanks. This doesn't surprise me. The only obvious unlock tree is bigger guns and I suppose at some point I'll be able to grab an airplane or something but then, I've already done all that.

I suppose the question is, is there some point in GTA V where the game really blossoms or is this it and I should cut my losses now?
100
Jack Eason @jackeason.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
The real lesson I suppose, is that GTA hasn't changed at all, for better or worse, but I have. I really enjoyed previous installments at the time but this just feels like work now. The scripted portions are intolerable skits but without them the gameplay is eternal busywork.

Jack Eason @jackeason.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
Basically I'm questioning if I should bother continuing. This feels like every other GTA but somehow simultaneously more fragmented AND cluttered. I suspect online, with other human players etc. could be fun, but the story mode is just repetitive tedium?

Did my first GTA V heist last night and unlocked Waingro (whose scripted intro is so piss poor I immediately bought him a $10K tuxedo because that should make future cinematics at least a little funny). There's more stuff in this game but has GTA developed gameplay-wise at all?

This is fun but maybe they could've convinced the actress to lose the bulky sweater for the the bedtime scenes.

Was gonna catch the new 4k resto of Begotten today but I am currently unable to tell of the symptoms I've been experiencing the last day and a half are allergies or a cold and I'm beginning to lean towards the latter so probably best to stay in. Which is a shame.

Tolstoy's talking about how all happy families are alike and unhappy ones are all different falls apart for film criticism, where there are millions of different ways a movie can be good and millions more why it can be bad and sometimes being bad is one of the ways a movie can actually be good.

I've mostly played it while running bad TV that I only listen to. Otherwise I'd never get the time in.

Jack Eason @jackeason.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
The dichotomy between SNL US and UK is real goofy. Every weekend there's a post claiming "here's five SNL UK jokes you could never say on US TV" and typically it's a fair call but then this week SNL US also had a guy call women "whores" and then apologize for swearing.

Sekiro is also TOO hectic but also it's maybe the most thrilling game I've ever played. You could get high off Sekiro.

Also very obviously the seed of Rob Zombie's later trauma studies. A truly interesting motion picture.

Might be my favorite of the franchise. Beautiful & strange. Defined by feminine relations, friends and sisters, navigating a world polluted by Myers' violence, but still fetishized (Tina, in her "maid" outfit, ducking between pools of light in the barn, almost recalls Rollin).

Granted, I've never been to Texas so I'm sure there's qualities I'm missing. It is interesting that Henkel disliked part 2 enough to skip over it entirely and consider his movie the true heir to the original.

I like this movie (especially the director's cut) more than TCM2. Recently discovered this has the lowest average Letterboxd rating for any horror movie I've rated 4+ stars. Ridiculous situation. It's a great movie. The masses cannot be trusted.

Him wandering around swearing about how stupid and unfair everything is for the first 20 mins is probably the most represented I've ever felt in a zombie movie.

Jack Eason @jackeason.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
But all in all, a very fun time at the movies. Crushed a beer, wish I'd bought two. At one point a zombie's appearance caused the guy seated behind me to loudly scream and his buddy made fun of him when the credits rolled. That's what it's all about.

That being said, the last half hour or so, as Cregger's dramatic aims become predictably set and the "game" elements begin to gain vocal expression, is the movie's weakest stretch and that's where the Anderson's spectacular, live-wire madhouses vault ahead.

Jack Eason @jackeason.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Kind've an interesting conversation with Paul W.S. Anderson's movies too. They emulate the broad, uncanny maximalism of 90s videogaming while Cregger giggles at the piecemeal "realism" new technology has granted modern videogames. A more ordered but no less manufactured reality.

Cregger with a direct hit. Apocalypse as farce. A series of numbing shocks jostling society's corpse just enough our hero mistakes the movement for signs of life and a possible return. The guardrails of a pre-existing property give Cregger freedom to really play.

It's the way theaters are actually meant to be laid out. Although granted they could do with a steeper gradient. But whatever, it was the 1920s, if the seating doesn't work in your favor, catch the next show.

Screening was indeed sold out yet I was able to park myself middle of the front row. Best seat in the house. Fun, appreciative crowd. Grabbed a beer and passed a girl sporting Jill Valentine's iconic RE3 outfit. Shit's good sometimes.

Love normie crowds at The Music Box. It is busy here for Resident Evil, not too far off sold out, I'd reckon, but there's just a handful of people in the first three rows aka. the best seats in the house.

A huge part of it is there's still a ton of craft and ambition and quirk in there. In fact, that's about all there is in Howard the Duck at any point.

Jack Eason @jackeason.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Howard the Duck is an odd duck, but a fine time. Saw it on 70mm a few years back which was a very fun experience. As they say, "they don't make 'em like this any more."

I always meant to watch it and just never made the time. I guess a movie that's always paired with the term "miserable" can be hard to fit in. Now you don't hear so much about it but Mungiu is still going.
010
Jack Eason @jackeason.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I have somehow not watched a single Cristian Mungiu movie thus far. There's a free screening of Fjord here this Sunday. Maybe I just dive in?
