I write stories, poems and the occasional play in small spaces like this. I leave them to be discovered in public places. On notecards in old paperbacks. Glued to the backs of flyers. Tucked amongst library books. Do I have a readership? I hope so

Annie Dillard, Meditative Author of ‘Pilgrim at Tinker Creek,’ Dies at 81
Her Thoreau-like account of journeys in the woods, published when she was 28, was the first of many ruminations on life and nature, good and evil.

SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books. Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:

BlueSky, why do you keep suggesting folk I might like to meet? The last time you decided to interfere in deciding who I should follow was when I signed up. That didn't end well. I'm still having to unfollow a lot of well-intentioned, I'm sure, folk I have absolutely nothing in common with. :)

‘Wish you were here’, we wrote on our postcards. Dad, wore his suit with a knotted handkerchief sunhat. He did a trouser roll-up paddle. Kids, played and swam all day in soggy home-knitted woollen bathing suits. Mam, fraught from fighting, lost her battle to keep the sand out of the sandwiches.

If you are viewing this stunning painting in the northern hemisphere, it is perfectly safe to look at it directly. It is NOT a solar eclipse.

You can't stop progress. A letter to the Lancaster Gazette in 1804 describes a gentleman's observations of that eclipse through a Dolland 80x telescope, as used by Captain Cook. Tonight, many of us will be using the Amazon box viewer, this one built by my neighbour Gary. #SolarEclipse

So I'll keep a cardy handy for Friday then. Sounds like there might be a cool breeze over the weekend. Rum do.

Elisabeth no dejaba traslucir mucho mientras pintaba. Al ver la expresión de su marido, seguía sin estar segura. En este momento, ojalá me hubiera puesto el vestido azul. :)

But does it? Whilst he made coffee & looked out of the kitchen window, through raindrops which blurred his view of the man without an umbrella waiting for the bus, running late on account of the roadworks at the top of the street? Did that lamp light remain constant? Or did it take a break too?

On the English Riviera. A place where Dad wore his only suit. Had a knotted hankie sunhat and did a trouser roll-up for his annual paddle. Kids bathed in home-knitted woollen bathing suits. And Mam fraught, fighting a losing battle to keep the sand out of the cook meat sand-wiches. Good days.

Reminds me of long days in high summer walking in the Wolds. Woldgate Vista captures the landscape and feelings it inspires perfectly.

Look, Little Dove flowing onwards through the Dearne and Don, to the Ouse, and the Humber where it meets the sea. A grand day out, for a trickle, with pretensions, dribbling out of the Worsbrough Res.

No. Just a service and a bit of TLC. It’s still got mile's to go. Just like me.
