I write stories, poems and the occasional play in small spaces like this. I leave them to be discovered in public places. On notecards in old paperbacks. Glued to the backs of flyers. Tucked amongst library books. Do I have a readership? I hope so

Annie Dillard, Meditative Author of ‘Pilgrim at Tinker Creek,’ Dies at 81
Her Thoreau-like account of journeys in the woods, published when she was 28, was the first of many ruminations on life and nature, good and evil.

SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books. Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:

BlueSky, why do you keep suggesting folk I might like to meet? The last time you decided to interfere in deciding who I should follow was when I signed up. That didn't end well. I'm still having to unfollow a lot of well-intentioned, I'm sure, folk I have absolutely nothing in common with. :)

‘Wish you were here’, we wrote on our postcards. Dad, wore his suit with a knotted handkerchief sunhat. He did a trouser roll-up paddle. Kids, played and swam all day in soggy home-knitted woollen bathing suits. Mam, fraught from fighting, lost her battle to keep the sand out of the sandwiches.

You can't stop progress. A letter to the Lancaster Gazette in 1804 describes a gentleman's observations of that eclipse through a Dolland 80x telescope, as used by Captain Cook. Tonight, many of us will be using the Amazon box viewer, this one built by my neighbour Gary. #SolarEclipse
