One thing I’ve noticed in 6 years of Trump: when he tries to cheat, he bumblefucks it spectacularly. Martial law doesn’t provide a mechanism for cancelling elections. I think it would have the exact opposite effect - turnout is already going to be high, that would send it to the stratosphere.

Its interesting, and you probably aren’t far off re: hubris. They put enough thought into it to get work vans with decals. They didn’t bother to get the phone number right or account for what they’d do if spotted by a nosy neighbor. Could have been much worse if they were fully competent.

Re: Fairford suspects. I’ve seen speculation that maybe they were simply stealing diesel. I guess that’s possible. That said, the setup certainly matched the MO of a coordinated VBIED assault. Also, maybe don’t steal fuel in trucks that could easily be bombs next to a base.
