Something for anyone posting clips of voice actors performances to be aware of, I guess - your innocent attempt to promote your work can result in stupid Meta generating AI simulacrums of people's voices without their permission. 🤷

I scrambled to figure out how to turn it off (you can, phew), and looked to see if there's a way to disable that feature on an account level - there isn't, you have to remember to manually disable it for each individual post.

Absolute horror, I uploaded a game trailer to Instagram and noticed it had "auto-translated". I thought that meant subtitles. Nope. It had automatically dubbed over the voice actors performances with AI. It was still (vaguely) their voices, just speaking other languages. So ghoulish.

On this day 130 years ago, died the poet, artist, publisher and activist William Morris. You likely have something in your home with a Morris & Co design on it. I bet your bedroom looks like this.
A panel from This Slavery graphic novel, depicting a lovely four-poster bed with Morris & Co curtains. There is also a woman passed out face down on the floor, but you’ll have to read the book if you want to know why

The Excavation of Hob's Barrow is a magnificent folk horror point and click adventure that I highly recommend. I'm still working on my video essay about the game, which I hope will be ready in time for Halloween, but maybe don't wait for that and pick this up beforehand? It's really good!

Data centres make me want to apologise personally to William Blake for finding his 'dark satanic mills' line funny when I heard it as a kid. I'm sorry that 200 years later we're still finding ways to build things that destroy the environment, scar the landscape and exploit workers.

The problem is that setting time aside for it would require there to be something else in my life I want to put down, and there isn't really? I've got a big to-read pile of books and a to-play pile of games, I don't think I want another pile!

I get a bit self conscious that I don't really watch TV. It sounds like I'm being a snob, but I just don't have a slot in my very screens-focussed life when I... do that?

This museum was integrated into The Dark Rites of Arkham for several reasons. One was narrative: you’ll have to solve a puzzle there. Another was to give those unfamiliar with H.P. Lovecraft a quick introduction to his themes and obsessions. 🧵

I'm going to apologise right now for all Beekeeper's Picnic players. In the game if you try to submit an entire beehive frame to the competition (rather than processed honey in a jar), it's treated like a very silly idea, but this show genuinely does have a whole category for that.

He (and we) should be making kindness and the welfare of others our 'business', and wealth and power come with a responsibility to do so. It doesn't surprise me that people with the clout to make a tv show would go "I can see myself in this picture... what if Scrooge was right, actually?"

He might not give charitable donations, but he pays his taxes which are used to support the welfare system. He's frugal to the point of miserliness with his own money, but it IS his money to do what he likes with, acquired legally. Dickens' point is that this isn't enough.

I feel like I'm enough of a known Christmas Carol fan that I should give my two cents. Scrooge isn't an evil cackling villain who steals candy from babies. He's entirely above board. He's a businessman who pays his employee an average wage and doesn't keep him beyond his contracted hours.
