June Phung @j4prez.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Full literary day today - joined @lit-namjooning.bsky.social’s launch party and read my little story in the AM (and met some of my wonderful issue mates virtually), and just got back from the @mywriters.bsky.social’s Malaysian Writers Festival 2026 (and met writers I’ve admired in real life)! 120
June Phung @j4prez.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Also would like to pat myself on the back because rejections used to hurt my feelings a lot… happy to report that rejections _still_ hurt my feelings but the sting doesn’t last as long. Growth? 000
June Phung @j4prez.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Received three rejections (two of them tiered) for two of my stories - the hunt continues! 101

June Phung @j4prez.bsky.social · 21/08/2026That last line! Such a haunting piece, Tracie, and I mean that in the best way possible. P/S Thought to let you know: we were in a Smokelong group once, and you gave me wonderful feedback for a flash that helped me shape it to its final form. The piece was published this year. Thank you so much! 110

June Phung @j4prez.bsky.social · 02/08/2026But I always thought there was a story there. So when I received the prompt (on conceit) by Smokelong, I picked it back up and connected the theme of death to food… and somehow it also became a story on the realities of bringing up death / real estate planning to the dying. 100
June Phung @j4prez.bsky.social · 02/08/2026This story was born because I saw someone promoting funeral services in a mall, and the line “Mikayla tries to sell death” came to mind (no clue why Mikayla and who she is). Tried fleshing it out; it was pretty bad (lol), tucked it into a drawer where my drafts go to die. 100

June Phung @j4prez.bsky.social · 16/08/2025I used to love ‘tweeting’ (do people say this anymore?) but over the years, social media morphed into something like a spectacle: it’s where you upload your published, edited piece rather than the messy first draft.
