The worst offender for this was a William Morris exhibition at the Tate a few years ago - skipping over (ignoring) the context and ideas of the work to state how much he got paid for each piece. Totally sucked the radicalism out of it - to the point it felt intentional

Why can’t they mix live music on SNL UK.

Had an MRI the other day and they didn’t play any music thru the headphones so it was just me and my thoughts and weird loud sounds but luckily 13 years with a noise musician prepared me for this moment. Genuinely got into one track where there were competing bangs as my pelvis was microwaved.

Bernard’s parents in their massive house ignoring the material reality that their son has been replaced by a monster, apathetic to the point that even the monster can’t believe how easy it was to take over

Is the classic kids book ‘Not Now Bernard’ a sophisticated satire on ignoring the left’s warnings about the rise of fascism or are we sleep deprived

Have really scuppered myself singing to the baby because there is nothing quite like trying to hit the high notes of Pink Pony Club in a hushed out of hours emergency waiting room.

Saw maybe the best film of 2025 yesterday - The Golden Spurtle. Just absolutely great, I love humans and how we just organise the most random stuff and then imbue it with such meaning. 1000/10 would watch again.

A friend has just confirmed that my opinion on a topic (based om my lived experience & learning) was similar to what ChatGPT said. Why are we doing this? I used to work with someone who would google things as I was speaking to see what google said - that was understood to be rude, so why isn't this?

I’m sad to have only just found out that Ann Harper passed - her unwavering commitment to unity and resistance has been a huge source of inspiration to me my whole life. I’m grateful for all the times we got pissed and set the rest of the room to right. Rest in power Ann.

1/ BREAKING: So - it turns out deeply-religious Lord Hodge, the Judge in yesterday’s UK Supreme Court Case that destroyed trans rights, headed a ‘Commission On Same-Sex Relationships’ for the Church of Scotland published in 2011.

Hate this bigoted little toilet island more so with every day. Also hate my profession for kicking trans rights around like a philosophical argument and falling prey to the binaries and dogmas we are meant to be good at challenging/dismantling/healing. Solidarity with the trans community always.

The new OpenAI creative writing bot's "short story" has the phrase "democracy of ghosts". It's the sort of phrase that would make me stop and admire it, if I were reading a human author - which, it turns out, I was, because it's from Nabokov's 1957 novel "Pnin". www.theguardian.com/books/2025/m...

An issue with this is that they are published at a certain point in time so new information isn't included - which is why we need both - but access to information in books/zines/pamphlets is at least something that can't be scrubbed at whim by fascists.

Seeing how quickly Trump's administration has wiped the CDC's website I'm really glad I hoard physical media and I encourage everyone to do the same. I've been lugging a copy of Our Bodies, Ourselves around since I was 18, not to mention multiple copies of DIY abortion and reproductive health zines.

I still don’t know what to make of the Raoul Moat one (got it free from Dead Ink Bookshop) - voyeuristic, bleak, sad - a portrait of someone failed by the system but also someone with a horrific capacity for violence - interesting to read it now alongside what’s been happening in the UK recently

20 years ago we were suing teenagers for millions of dollars because they were torrenting a single Metallica album and now billionaires are demanding the free right to every work in history, so that they can re-sell it. The law only ever serves capital.

I just hosted my first Burns Night and it felt like a lovely way to draw a line under the first rough weeks of the year where there’s so much grief to get through. Next year I’m going full folk I think, couple of wassails and a trip to see Up Helly Aa. Anything that is about fire, food and friends.
