In Japan, it’s difficult to make a living doing only mecha design, so I’ve ended up working across different fields. But it’s helped broaden my perspective.

A Japanese VTuber watched Star Wars blind in chronological order (Ep 1-6). To her, it was "The Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker"—she even grew to distrust the Jedi. This is exactly the reaction George Lucas intended by starting with Ep 1. I cried with her when Hayden’s Force Ghost appeared.

Imperial Army Transport (Part 2) Thanks to some extra reference images from @izmojuki.com, I was able to improve my model of his Imperial transport from Star Wars Visions! Also made some fancier renders of it for fun too. #starwars #starwarsships #starwarsvisions #blender #blender3d #blenderrender

Inspired by Doug Chiang’s art in "The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels," my 22-year-old, inexperienced self created CG art for my website. This was before the Special Editions, just as Ep I rumors began. I used StrataStudio Pro and KPT Bryce on a PowerMac 7500/100.

I bought The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte and have been reading it this week. It’s wonderful, especially the parts about how Leslye Headland developed the story in its early stages. It’s such a shame there won’t be a Season 2.

Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo), author of Kwaidan, introduced Japan's spirituality to the West. A drama on him and his wife, Setsu, is currently airing, gaining popularity. His outsider's gaze helps us re-examine our culture, rediscovering the profound beauty and forgotten charm of "Old Japan."

I attended a lecture at a museum today about Japan’s wolf beliefs. It was full of fascinating stories, even though Japan’s wolves went extinct in the 19th century. Wolves aren’t worshipped as gods themselves but seen as messengers of the divine — just like Loth-wolves serving the Force.

If you happen to be in Tokyo, there’s a Star Wars: Visions exhibition near Shinjuku’s southeast exit. Directors Hitoshi Haga (The Village Bride, The Lost Ones) and Naoyoshi Shioya (The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope) will drop by on Sunday from 3 PM. Might be fun to swing by.

Being part of Star Wars: Visions Volume 1 was such an honor and a joy. But it was during the height of the pandemic, so everything was done remotely — I never had the chance to meet the team or anyone from Lucasfilm face to face. It’s still something I really regret not being able to experience.
