There is a deep and abiding satisfaction to getting drunk on a friday with an old friend and colleague at a bespoke brewery and then arriving home to pizza (pizza friday!) with your family that you did not have to coordinate. It's rainy in Portland, there is no better weather.

I have to tell you, every time I have looked at this, the options have involved tradeoffs that were essentially crummy and not worth it. I think Fastmail or Apple was the leading contender. If I get super frustrated I could move these services to nearlyfreespeech.net

It's a calculus by the leaders at this point about whether saying this was a mistake (whether they believe that or not) is more likely to extend what is going on and refresh the news cycle. I think it's a mistake to assume there is a moral value attached to the next steps unless explicitly stated.

It's not about Omarchy now, my guess is internally that grievances around a whole bunch of stuff are now psychologically tied to the mast head of this by leadership and a group of folks internally not in leadership.

The earliest record I could find of purchasing 1Password was 2008, but I think I probably used it before that with email being a poor records retrieval system. Like you I have been consuming their security centric content for 2 decades, and this is so out of place, just from a narrow risk eval.

Many years ago, the "moat" for tools like 1Password was the decision to commit to a password manager workflow and capabilities in a particular platform/app for managing passwords. For me, I now question 1Passwords ability to assess risk, because this is obviously a decision where that didn't happen.

Fire expanded westward over night, now about 6 miles from Mt Hood Meadows - close to 35 - hopefully they can hold it there so it doesn't jump - evacuations expanding up on the mountain - doesn't impact us but the wind direction is headed our way and lots of that forest hasn't burned.

Sounds like visibility has gotten poor enough that they are cancelling some of the tanker runs, not a great sign.

Looks like with the wind shift to coming out of the east the Grasshopper fire up near Mt. Hood is dumping it's smoke in to the Willamette valley, hopefully the fire stays contained, but it's windy up there and the watchduty map shows some aircraft now coming in to fight the fire.
