fun Escape Velocity fact: Immediately as you load the game, I hide a shitload of assets behind a splash screen. Player sees picture 1, game renders picture 2 behind it. This stops a bunch of things from stuttering once you load into the game proper. But it's also incredibly funny to me

just a mess of assets, hidden by the splash screen. Itzu is on fire in some of the textures

I love setting up my vr playspace oooh ahhhh yesss mmmm good

a vr playspace being denied for inscrutable reasons. there seems to be plenty of space. I can only assume it's off by inches in one dimension.

not really sure how to describe this otherwise. There's a sorta L shape to the room traced by vr trackers, and a big red square in the middle with almost twice its volume available on 3 sides around it. it feels like you could just move the square slightly to the left and it'd be valid. maybe it doesn't like how narrow one of the spots it? whatever

I'm so fucking excited to finally show off how much the game's changed since this demo, it's really crazy to go back and play this when I see what I have now in the project file you don't even get the WEDGE or the new cel shading or the executive zones or anything (stamina isn't making the cut)

fun fact: the current version of escape velocity's first room exists in a weird void unique to it as well! I was testing some different ways to do geometry and to be quite honest I forget what the idea was here. but it sure is like that for one room and then never again

some map geometry from Escape Velocity, viewed from inside the unreal editor, with the camera positioned below the geometry to give a view contrasted by the sky. most of the map looks like you'd expect geometry to look like from out of bounds, but the first room has a huge black box around it.
