Why 2500 dollars, or 625 per family, for our goal?In Week 7, we raised it due to increasing fees for receiving cash in Gaza. Fees are now up to 30%, so each family would get about 437. The min. they needed weekly. It's now Week 14
of this initiative, or 17 weeks since we began (due to falling behind.)
Flour costs 1000 shekels, leaving just 117 dollars after fees, or 16 per day. And we're now 3 days behind. Meaning the families likely won't be able to afford new flour even if we reach our goals.

That's if you can find vegetables that are still fresh! It costs 420 to make a meal of maqluba for four families in central Gaza. For daily meals, that's 2940 a week! And that's without any additional ingredients. Salt is 5/kg, olive oil is 26/L, and a can of ghee is 23! For "affordable" protein, a tray of eggs is now 65. Families are still sifting out weevils and worms from flour (see slide 2), which has reached 114 a sack!

Only four types of vegetables are found in Gaza's markets:
Tomatoes, potatoes, spinach, and zucchini. One kilo of any would cost at least $13.
Some are simply rotten. Many families spend days on some loaves of bread_ made from bug-infested flour.
While meat of bad quality is there, one kilo costs roughly $100. What is available doesn't meet the needs of around 1 million people trapped in Deir al-Balah.

All sorts of aid are being sold in the markets, including canned food and other supplies that should easily reach people.
If you want to make one plate for you and your family once a day, you need at least $150
No eggs, no milk, no fresh fruits or other vegetables...Just a very few types of food, bad-quality, to feed the population

For one year, they've endured a lack of proper food, water, hygiene, healthcare, electricity, jobs, stability.
