Personalmente sono molto inquadrato e fatico a risultare spontaneo, mi ha aiutato darmi delle regole e quando rimanevo bloccato fare delle "serie", del tipo "ora faccio una serie a tema zodiaco in cui tutti i segni sono in armatura, hanno un mantello e un'arma unica".

Also in latin monstrum is derived from moneo, my latin is a bit rusty since I studied it a long time ago, but is simply the substantive you get from the verb. Sorry if my english is getting in the way, I'm not a native speaker

My primary source from Claude-Claire Kappler's "Monstres, démons et merveilles à la fin du Moyen Âge". The middle age reference is to bestiaries, like the Physiologus. I know they aren't the same word and the meaning shifts, is just that we always searched for a narrative in nature and fiction.

When I see the first one I feel physical pain. I wrote a thesis on the role of monsters as symbols, monsters comes from latin "monstrare"!! It's the same as demonstrate!!! In the middle ages people thought they were signs from god!!! The literal ANIMALS were written as parables in bestiaries!!!!

This is the thread for my minicomic, Into the Bladelands! I will be posting updates of anywhere from 2-4 pages here, hopefully to be finished before the end of the year. Sky disappears. Ari gets left behind. Five years later, the door to the Bladelands opens again.

Ari (vo): When I was sixteen, my best friend disappeared. We grew up together in the woods between our houses. Sky could have fun no matter what.
Sky: Pick up your sword and fith me like a man!
Ari: Wait for me!
Ari (vo): My favorite thing to do was just live in his world.
Bully: Whatcha drawin, faggots? The map to your honeymoon?
Sky punches him. Later, Ari tends to his wounds.
Sky: You probably think I'm really stupid.
Ari: I just think you're really brave.
They kiss.
Sky: We can't tell anyone about this, okay?
Ari: Yeah, of course.

A couple years pass. Sky and Ari are looking at the stars.
Sky: Y'know, I think about it all the time.
Ari: What we've been doing?
Sky: No, man, the Bladelands! We'd run shit over there. Be warriors or kings or whatever.
Ari: Heh, too bad it's not real.
Sky: well, it could be.
Ari: Dude.
Sky: I'm just saying! Maybe we were picking up a signal or something. Like a radio station from another state, but with dragons. It feels like that sometimes. Y'know, I turn 17 tomorrow. And I'm starting to freak out a little because, like, this is it? I thought I could be more than this.
Ari: Hey, you can be! When we're 18, we can get out of here. We'll move to the city. Together.
Sky: I guess... it still just all feels so small. At least in the Bladelands, there's magic. And prophecy, and swords, and danger. You can be an adventurer. You can at least be, like, an important person.
Ari: You're important, Sky. You're important to me.
Sky: Heh. Gayyy.
Ari: Shut up.
Ari (VO): That was the last night I ever saw him.
Ari walks away. Sky spots a mysterious portal behind a tree and reaches out to it.

Ari (Vo): The next day, he was gone.
We see a montage of Ari's lonely life. Sky's parents mourn and move away. Ari graduates. Gets a job working at a bookstore. The impromptu memorial for Sky rots.
Ari (VO): And the next. And the next. And the next. And the next. And the next. And then five years were gone.

It also helps A LOT to have a social space rigidily confined where you are not the organizer. A book club, a game night in your local game shop, an art course... You can push back if you are the one feeling unconfortable and you are guaranteed to see the same people multiple times

If you strike a conversation about games or art ("I like your metal t-shirt!") you may appear like a weirdo and feel awful, but it's the price to pay to leave people who would be not interested in you be. Obviously if you are interested in other things you can start with them, it's just an example

I think the "trick" is not being afraid of appearing awkward and meeting A LOT of people in different social contexts. I have many friends thanks to school, roleplaying games and church (even if I'm not a believer anymore), but small talk about work was hell, and I didn't make any friend from it.
