I've been thinking about how indie 3D platformers treat enemies. You don't need to have intricate combat mechanics but having enemies with personality and charm adds a lot to your presentation than treating them like another hazard.

Just a WIP on what I've been cooking. I always try and make sure things look good while its still fullbright, as lighting should add to your environments and not be the final touch that makes it look good.

Not being ironic. There is an outsider art appeal to Bubsy 3D that gets ignored, as most gamers are hyper-focused on the quality of games rather than their creation and meaning of expression. Remove the gamer bias and Bubsy 3D may be the first example of a weird indie game.

Bubsy 3D was developed in isolation without any design standards or references on 'good' game design for a 3D game. Compared to its contemporaries the dev team also wanted to be really experimental. The final result is essentially outsider art in games form.

Uninstalled all my games other than the ones I use for note-taking for gamedev. I'm done with games as a medium outside of my project. Once Paint Gal Adventures is finished I'll move to a new hobby that makes me happy. Nothing lasts forever.

The bootleg games market is basically dead. The only company I can think of that's still alive is Dreamgear, which operates the My Arcade brand.
