there's actually a really funny possible outcome of this: since this is the first key in the game, some new players might not notice the vines on the wall, and promptly leave the temple to go searching the entire rest of the game for a key. I really hope this happens to at least one person

navi is right there. if you have 28 years of player testing telling you that a bunch of people miss the key in the first room of the forest temple, give navi a new line of dialogue if the player hasn't found it yet. have her mention the compass or something

maybe they have a pile of data somewhere telling them that 50% of playthroughs stop here or something but it sucks they they resort to this instead of like, using the systems already in the game. the map/compass is already more appealing by virtue of the original game's map looking like hot ass

haven't seen anyone else notice this but it looks like they're dumbing down/overcorrecting some of the more notorious pain points in the ocarina remake, like that devilish small key in the first room of this temple

i dunno I'm kinda here for the absurd maximalism of the oot remake. it kinda reminds me of like the little dioramas people make where they cram an absurd amount of detail and texture into a tiny space. it looks tactile and like the physics of it are different because it's so small

she reacts extremely to things and knows it, doesn't know which feelings and ideas are extreme but also believes, like most people, that she's right most of the time, while also having the power to make her ideas real. which would probably make you feel like you are crazy

I can see why people would call all of this bad writing and it is definitely a bit of a clusterfuck but somehow it adds up to one of the most interesting characters Ive seen on a show for babies, because of and in spite of executive meddling and all kinds of other weird shit

so she's out of place both in-world and to the viewer. she lives with the main character in the main location but she's still off to the side. she's supposed to be learning friend lessons but she doesn't really. the motivation for her evil stint is trivial and her redemption gave people whiplash...

like, heres this giant playset for you to buy. twilight and spike live here by themselves! a reformed cult leader also has a room in there somewhere. she doesnt particularly get along with the other characters but she's too powerful for twilight to stop and she seems more unstable than outright evil

it makes me wonder what a version of this show would look like if hasbro forced the writers to make all the main characters live in the castle and they were just always there. instead, starlight takes a room there and her place in the show gets fucking weird as hell in an interesting way

i like change though. as ugly as the castle is, there are things i actually like about it. it being huge and empty is really funny, the way they kinda wander around it aimlessly getting lost. this scene where they make cupcakes feels like playing with toys; mixing and matching old ones and new ones

obviously you're going to associate prominent locations & characters in a show with the show itself, so when they're phased out or dramatically ripped away, (and something or someone is put in its place) it's hard not to feel a certain way about it. especially if the show goes on for another 5 years
