I was honestly so shocked to find this fragment; so much of the time when items are listed as ‘songs’ it’s just text without notation, but not all the time, and that is why it is important to check!

Second in-person MedRen smashed 💪 Phenomenal work by @medren2025.bsky.social continuing an unusually anarchic conference tradition. This conference stands out among other musicology conferences for its unique combo of high levels of calibre, craic, and camp, and it was a delight to be a part of 🥰

It took nearly 11 years of the state trying to bankrupt us, wear us down, & destroy any sense that I belonged to a community or family. But they couldn’t, and now, the home office has conceded that I do in fact belong here: I have been granted Indefinite Leave to Remain. And I ain’t going nowhere.

This is genuinely one of the hardest things to square psychologically: the very real fear one feels at being an immigrant dealing with hostile environment while also feeling guilty knowing that it is much easier for you as a ‘good immigrant’ (white with cultural capital and/or liquidity)

Its so rare as academics to get a chance to collectively dig down into fundamental issues with how we do research and have good, intense, productive debates, let alone play a small role in shaping how Early Music Happens - privilege indeed! 😊

We will never ever ever stop being hot and hilarious, and facists hate that. We will never stop standing up for every single person’s right to be free, safe, and comfortable in their body. Turn up for your trans kindred, if for no other reason than because we will turn up for you 🩷🤍🩵

The thing about trying to get everyone to hate trans people is trans people are extremely funny and therefore it is very hard to get people angry at them, and facists HATE being laughed at. Oxford will always be queer, no matter how many busloads of boomer freaks the uni invites onto our streets ✊

Out of curiosity, how did you come to the renumeration figures? In musicology performance-enactment stuff I’ve done we’ve usually gone with Musicians’ Union figures or thereabouts, and I’m wondering how this tracks with other disciplines!

The article contextualizes the book against a wider backdrop of English convent musical culture and music education at the convent schools by using new research that has been undertaken since 2011.

Dr(!?!?) Caro @itscaro.bsky.social · 29/01/2025
It uncovers evidence of likely usage in the context of an exiled English convent and demonstrates that the book probably travelled across the channel several times over two generations, used by both mother and daughter, both in and out of an English convent context.
