So you know previous waves of technological fabulism the tech companies threw a little loose change at social behavioral research and user interface experience. whats interesting about AI interesting is that they aren’t even pretending to care about how people use the technology.

Once you realize Trump's morally binding AI code doesn't even spell "United States" properly, the whole sham looks even more ominous.

I really don't understand why anyone should give their work to a product made by a company built on appropriating the work of others.

Holy shit I can see why Fielder is still trying to figure what he experienced through making this film. That trailer is creepier than any fictional horror movie A24 has produced.

I'm working on a thing with an LLM at its core that probably shouldn't have an LLM involved at all. Praying for the day when "let's use 'AI'" isn't the first thing a bunch of people jump on first.

George White @its.stonehippo.com · 21/09/2026
I'm getting comments on a public gist from a few years ago that start off seeming to be about the actual code then veer off into some marketing link. LLM-generated spam seems like a top five use case.

It's hard to state how *sane* @doctorow.pluralistic.net's recent writing has been. He's consistently finding the islands of stability in the chaos, then setting beacons to help the rest of us come ashore.

The TESCREAL sex cult thing is a real challenge. Not only are the members of that cult incredibly dangerous, with dangerous goals, their whole belief system is so nutty it's hard to get normal folks to believe that it could be the driving force behind "AI".

Nice to see this getting some attention. It's completely true, and I dearly wish more journalists understood where these common narratives about AI actually come from.

There's lots of reasons to believe AI "hyperscalers" can never be profitable, and not just the gigantic expenditures and negative unit economics (the companies lose money on new customers and every use, and they lose more with each generation of their products): pluralistic.net/2025/09/27/e...

I got this email from OpenAI and it's baffling. Why would I ask ChatGPT anything when I have a perfectly reliable map app that already does what I need?
A screen shot of an email from OpenAI.
Subject: Check your route with ChatGPT

The body of the email includes a suggestion. To use ChatGPT to plan out trips and routes, a thing that map apps do just fine, thank you.

We have had this conversation so many times. You do not have to platform/debate obscene views that are also false. I wrote during a wave of pressure on progressives to compromise with far-right haters:
I can comprehend, and do, that lots of people don’t believe climate change is real, but is there some great benefit in me listening, again, to those who refuse to listen to the global community of scientists and see the evidence before our eyes? A lot of why the right doesn’t “understand” climate change is that climate change tells us everything is connected, everything we do has far-reaching repercussions, and we’re responsible for the whole, a message at odds with their idealization of a version of freedom that smells a lot like disconnection and irresponsibility. But also climate denial is the result of fossil fuel companies and the politicians they bought spreading propaganda and lies for profit, and I understand that better than the people who believe it. If half of us believe the earth is flat, we do not make peace by settling on it being halfway between round and flat.
