A mishmash: Middle East stuff, development stuff, organizational dysfunction, crisis response, carbon transition dynamics, silly sports things. Mostly here to read smarter people than me.

This is the punter for the Washington State Cougars and it says he's a sophomore but I'm pretty sure he's a 37 year old high school history teacher?

Look, Nicky, what did I tell you? When CO2 levels get high enough it causes a mega-drought in the southwest. All those bodies are gonna be found and the cops are gonna be up our ass! No way the gaming commission gives me a license at that point!

1. Doesn't excuse shooting him 2. ICE always lies 3. I don't care if he was here illegally. MAGA hasn't rushed to get jobs on farm crews and roofing crews and cleaning crews since ICE chased the immigrants away. We need these people and everyone knows it

Donald Trump is so half-assed. Wanting to build dumb arches and whatnot while Prince Bonesaw wanted a physically impossible and totally unnecessary city where trucks would be driving poop around on retractable bridges and I'm sorry but I can't stop laughing ig.ft.com/saudi-neom-l...

One goofy thing about this is Trump talking about the weight of the fuel so he can use Big Numbers. If you convert this to barrels like everyone else does you see it's not very much. Anyway, hopefully Ukraine keeps knocking out Russian petro infrastructure

John of Patmos was brought back as Chris Cornell, and rebooted the Book of Revelation as the Black Hole Sun video. We ignore prophetic visions at our peril.

Here's a story to blow your mind. I saw Nirvana in 1994 which entailed: 1. Walk downtown to the venue 2. Give the box office guy $20, get change and a ticket which went into my wallet 3. On the night of the show, go to the venue, give them the ticket, get in, the end (great show by the way)

What's wild is Michael Baumgartner is in a rematch with Carmela Conroy, a meh candidate whom he beat by 21 points two years ago. The last time this district voted blue, Kurt Cobain was alive. What do the internal polls look like if they're worried about it now?

My problem with this is it should be Bob Kraft crying. Kraft ❤️ sex slavery and lets ICE use his jets and funds the IDF and supports Trump and punishes those who speak against Israel's barbarism. He's a bad person. Sheeran doesn't seem bad, just a bit ignorant and a bit of a weenie

Dude's cooked. Musicians are supposed to at least pretend to be rebels. Even Kid Rock knows that. (He's a bootlicker but he'd say "fuck Palestine" and his fans would see him as a badass.) Sheeran ran to sign the "I won't say any words that make an Epstein files rich guy sad" memo. He's toast.

This is pathetic. In my experience Spanish people have style, even the fascists. The Spanish Legion is still around wearing outfits like Tom of Finland so don't expect me to be impressed by your "just got off work at my Heritage Foundation internship" look

George Dubya @itisgeorge.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
I think part of this is that musicians are supposed to at least perform being free spirits in our culture. Even a bootlicker like Kid Rock knows that. Sheeran immediately and publically signing the "I agree not to say the following words so billionaires won't get mad" papers is comically lame

Honestly these last 25 years have sucked. We lost our minds and hurt a lot of people and disgraced ourselves. It looks like younger generations have moved past our bullshit and you know what? That's for the best. May we get out of their way.

Here’s a 2024 election map of Pennsylvania, a key swing state that put Trump in charge. I’ve circled the parts of the state with a lot of coal mines, oil wells, or gas wells. If fossil fuel guys are some sort of workers’ solidarity vanguard I’m not seeing it

But why is it my responsibility to look out for them? Nobody else does, not for them or anybody else. Their own industry is screwing them every chance they get despite record profits. The days when a high school dropout with a pair of work boots could go to the Bakken and make 6 figures are gone
121 2
George Dubya @itisgeorge.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
What I want to push back on is this. Standard just transition stuff about making sure fossil fuel workers can land on their feet if their industry goes away. And in a vacuum OK, sure, sounds great. And it may help politically (although I’m VERY doubtful that will accomplish much)

The TLDR on the article is the oil industry wants to spray radioactive contaminated wastewater all over the place including rivers and farmland. If they have to treat the water instead it will cost them $ and make them sad, but there are ways to stop them. It’s a really useful article!

Here's a thought but I don't know if it's feasible: half the people on earth live inside this circle and most of them have oil shortages thanks to Trump's war. I bet they'd love to buy Canadian oil that now goes to the US. If that means Americans are paying $9 a gallon right before election day...

OK I think Trump has solved all problems with the military and I think the Democrats are lying. I just got an email from a very real Marine colonel who personally made $30M on the blockade and is willing to give me $6M if I just give him my bank info.

Anyway, the best move in Ritzville is to use the Electrify America charging station across the parking lot from the Punjabi Dhaba restaurant. I have no idea how a bunch of Indian guys ended up in Ritzville but God bless ‘em. Their food rules and you can eat while you charge, and pay by credit card
120 2
George Dubya @itisgeorge.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
Seriously. Why the charging station guys are so allergic to marketing their product I’ll never understand. Gas station signs give essential info to people driving 70 mph! People want to charge their cars! If they know there are chargers around they will use them! Put up a big sign! 14/19

Going out, I charged up in Ritzville. It’s a small town at the intersection of I-90 and 395, with five gas stations at the exit and gas station signs you can see a mile away. It also has five places to charge but of course there are no signs so passers-by would have no idea. 13/19

Camp's cancelled. Anyway, here's a sign from the BC Forest Service back in the day saying that those who cause forest fires should be hanged. I like this sign. Perhaps it should apply to more than just cigarette butts.

Here's the air quality where my daughter is scheduled to go to camp this week. It'll be more or less like this all week. This never happened when I was a kid. The problem is that, as things get hotter and drier, formerly accurate assumptions no longer are. If the new standard is “stay away from trees and grass” then the map of dangerous WUI places stops being a map of specific neighborhoods and basically becomes a map of North America. 10/

Here’s a map of the WUI in Spokane. Yellow and orange = WUI, Red = medium to high housing density. Saturday’s fire started in the orange but also burned through yellow and red 5/

Basically houses out in the woods on the outskirts of town. And yeah, these places are indeed tough to defend from wildfire. But there’s not just a problem with us expanding out into the woods; vegetation is drying out to the point that places in town that used to be safe no longer are 4/

Red flag warning for Spokane. We just got burned up in the (worse) one last week. No wind = fires under control but also a ton of smoke. Wind = smoke gets cleared out but new fires spread rapidly which later = more smoke. Rain = lolsob we don’t get rain anymore, silly goose 1/
