Anyway, I was never worried abt the guys in my unit. I married one of them, in fact, but that's another story. I was in a brass quintet w 4 other guys I affectionately called my penis posse. (I was in the Army Band,you know). In light of recent events, I have 2 stories.

Thought it was funny to strip down, jump up on his cot and yell NAKED so everyone would have to see his junk. But pls keep that in mind that we were forbidden from entering the guys' tent. While we were deployed. And armed. With semi-automatic weapons. And in my case, a 6-in Kabar.

When the power went out in our tent, the temp inside edged from a balmy 100° to nearer the outside temp of 130-140°. We had to ask permission to enter the guy's tent (running on its own generator). And before we went in, they had to make sure all the guys were wearing clothes bc at least 1 guy

STORY TIME: when I was deployed, there were 44 ppl in my unit and 6 of them were women. When we were in Kuwait, the 6 of us got put in a tent with 75 other women from the battalion. The guys got their own tent. Which caused jealousy bc their tent wasn't overcrowded and their AC actually worked.

This is the discourse I come to Bluesky for. My chili is cinnamon forward but it's different every time I make it. Always beans, diced canned tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms, a little spice, and some kind of beef, though I've done veggie and tofu chilis before. I mix up the seasonings and method.

On my Wed walk, I saw NINE groundhogs and EIGHT of them are in this pic, tho you can only see the 3 in the field as the other 5 were up in the ball field on the hill. I saw one take a flying swipe at a crow who got too close.

Walked this morning before work. Did not trip and skin my knee. Did see one (1) chipmunk, one (1) groundhog, and startled one (1) deer. 2 mi in abt 30 min, so on pace to finish a 12-mi ruck in 3hrs. Which is a weird way for me to think abt it.

Did 2 miles in abt 30 min, with pauses to take pics. I keep picturing me on the grass, cradling my knee and crying, but as a kid who wants help but is also too ashamed to ask and just wants a grown-up to ask me if I'm ok so I can say no. I didn't cry, I didn't need help, but the image persists.

I'm not sure how I feel abt this. I don't think this is a story to be proud of. This isn't overcoming obstacles in pursuit of a lofty goal. I think it may have been just stubbornness. Or maybe some ingrained impulse to hide injury/weakness. To brush it off.

And the whole walk, I assessed. No limping, no sharp or stabbing pain, no strain of muscles compensating for something not working right. No strangers stopping to see if I'm ok. Or pointing and laughing. Nothing but a bluejay and a couple groundhogs and the occasional chill breeze.

I was 2 min into my walk at that point. I could have turned around and gone home. I should have. My knee was bleeding and stinging. My hands hurt from catching me. But I didn't. I walked my 2 mi, slowly at first but back up to pace as my legs released the pain.

It was difficult getting up, but I managed it, without that terrible shakey moment I hate when I get off the floor during my home workouts when my muscles are watery and I feel my age and my weight and my grinding joints.
