www.tumblr.com/alnilamen/76... this amazing artist just shared art based off one of my Maedhros & Maglor fics. kind of dumbstruck honestly, by how haunting & oneiric & soft & terrifying it manages to be. feel so lucky, thanking this artist for ever, i must say

Just to clarify my opinions: -Tolkien’s letters are not the final arbiter of meaning for his texts -Different people can like different things (or the same things for different reasons) -If your fanship of a book/tv/movie makes you act like a jerk to other people, you are doing it wrong

While I was in Aotearoa/NZ and observing the scenery, it was not lost on me how the crowd that co-ops Tolkien for white supremacy and praises the movies for adhering to that narrative, are obsessed with visuals that aren’t even in Europe. Not even the same hemisphere. And on colonized land at that.

For no particular reason reposting this excellent older piece by my friend @understatesmen.bsky.social Aotearoa/NZ is not middle earth, and it's not a Maaori-themed holiday park either.

Aotearoa is not Middle-earth

Middle Earth has been clinging to Aotearoa for nearly 20 years. It's time to push the two apart.
