Even if he wins he'd be 74 when he takes office and if something happens he'd be replaced by a likely GOP governor. If he ran for governor he stands a much better chance of winning and would have a younger Lt. Governor. This is a selfish decision on his part. He just wants back in Washington.

I've seen many faculty/staff/admin in higher education act like what's happening just requires some tweaks or pivots and that everything will eventually return to normal. It won't. You can't pivot from extortion, hostile takeovers, fascism, spineless leadership, lack of fight, or lack of integrity.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

The test for Dems now (if the fail, vote them out) is messaging. Every Dem should already have a plan ready to communicate the impact of this bill. It's not enough to vote against it. How are you reaching those who don't follow closely to communicate what's in the bill and the terrible impact?

The degree to which the Constitution has been eviscerated by a tyrannical president, a complicit Supreme Court, and a criminally negligent Congress in just five months is unfathomable. We're, quite literally, no longer a Constitutional republic. America is subject to one man's personal rule.

They could be insurrectionists, extremist militiamen or criminals themselves, chasing law-abiding citizens down the street for recording their kidnappings. The odds they aren't are low. I keeping thinking about this Musk profile from 2023, in which national security officials said they were scared AF at how dependent our govt is on him. "We are living off his good graces,” said a DoD official. “That sucks.” by @ronanfarrow.bsky.social www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
In the past twenty years, against a backdrop of crumbling infrastructure and declining trust in institutions, Musk has sought out business opportunities in crucial areas where, after decades of privatization, the state has receded. The government is now reliant on him, but struggles to respond to his risk-taking, brinkmanship, and caprice. Current and former officials from NASA, the Department of Defense, the Department of Transportation, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration told me that Musk’s influence had become inescapable in their work, and several of them said that they now treat him like a sort of unelected official. One Pentagon spokesman said that he was keeping Musk apprised of my inquiries about his role in Ukraine and would grant an interview with an official about the matter only with Musk’s permission. “We’ll talk to you if Elon wants us to,” he told me. In a podcast interview last year, Musk was asked whether he has more influence than the American government. He replied immediately, “In some ways.”
