i respect that they're trying stuff like the detach qt feature which does add friction even if the underlying post is still there but yeah lock/unlock is usually a critical way of pumping the brakes on virality. i can think of other minor mitigations but none very good

i think it's a fun project and it's totally possible nothing bad ever happens but my feeling is that nobody in charge has really theorized out all the possibilities and designed with that in mind and it makes me cautious

it's also different from blogs in the sense that every interaction is autopiped into a maximally easily accessible nicely formatted public stream. this lowers the activation barrier for both fun and abusive uses significantly

every social app needs to have a dedicated Beef Zone. like a fight club for words. if you start shit with someone it immediately gets put into a Fights tab and your followers can bet on who's gonna win the fight. loser gets a 3 day mute to simulate having a broken jaw from a bar fight

anyways amanda knox is a specific edge case bc the things people harass her for are already public and easily referenceable and so i imagine the primary issue is her having to see it all the time. not the same model for a lot of people on social media

the one thing a centralized platform gives you is a much stronger wall around the data you post to it, i don't think some of the super pro protocol people understand how much moderation depends on privacy
