It’s a special, albeit small, bit of power minority groups get to hold onto as an undeniable marker of who they are. tl;dr don’t use slurs if you’re not a part of that group 000

Things assimilating into the monoculture is an inevitable, and in the end, neutral force. However, it undeniably sucks to lose elements that used to be a unique cultural signifier. 100

The social taboo for the out-group maintains their status as the one piece of language that can’t get subsumed by wider culture. 140
