The year is 2010, a Google bot is blamed for reading all the files, making them available for search. The server was configured to leave directory indexing turned on. The year is 2026, an OpenAI agent is blamed for accessing files. The server was configured to leave directory indexing turned on.

It's the inevitable commodification of the NI (no intelligence) boom. Sure, Facebook, X, all profit it off it to some extent, but really haven't grasped the market potential like Misanthropic would. Will it offer mansplaining services as well? I feel this would be enhance shareholder value.

More partial to 'Dread', as in Dreadnaught. Implies the possibility of overwhelming terror and horror, but also says 'Hey, it could be OK'. Give people a bit of hope.

The Belgariad was the first major series of books I read as a kid after I got it as a birthday gift. Read all the following books. It was THE series that really got me into reading. But yeah, having read them once as an adult... ooo boy. And then I learnt what the authors did.

Pauline gets her sound bites, and the journalists think people will bother to follow up on them. Too late for that. Pauline got her message out without any real opposition. That's what she wanted. And not even a single question to the blatant hypocrisy of the entire One Nation platform.

After all this time you'd think journalists would have a scoresheet of every claim, every dodgy statistic, every attack against minorities that Pauline uses. And yet no one bothered to challenge them. They all seem to expect that it will come out in the analysis afterwards, as if people read them.

We have mini-churches popping up in warehouse districts. Where's the mysticism in a square, concrete building? What scripture covers the unknown of where to store empty shipping palettes found in a side ally? What holiness is there in terracotta urns left by the previous garden decor tenant?

In our region growing up, the third line was 'then you really oughta show it'... so less gaslighting, more totalitarian. We were given an illusion of choice, but there's a malicious undertone implying negative consequences if you don't comply.

I've yet to come across a country town or RSL where the meat tray isn't serious business. Like, going out for dinner with the in-laws in Cootamundra and it's all about the tickets and getting the table where we can see the raffle results.

The gentle art of making one's bullshit compact, punchy, and informative in order to hook the reader is a struggle. The rest of the article is, of course, reserved for expanding and elaborating on that bullshit, which seems so much easier in comparison.

"'Love’ is such an active word loses its depth in English. The Igbo word for love, “Ifunanya”, means “I see you”. I. See. You. What do you see when you look at fellow humans? What do we do with a structure of knowledge that cannot see many of the bodies, spaces, and times it governs?"

It brings to mind two principles that those in power manipulate: acceptable losses and the greater good. They sell the lie that profits for the few are for the greater good to justify what they consider the acceptable number of people dying. They get people to sacrifice themselves for the belief.

The referendum on becoming a Republic in 1999 - despite overwhelming support, Howard managed to twist the outcome of the convention to put forth a model no one would accept. If not for Howard, we could be a republic. The manipulation was a hallmark of his entire Prime Ministership.

If you're using artists' work to train your A.I. to be better at writing, creating images, music etc, then you're training it to compete with artists. So pay them.
7.30’s Sarah Ferguson asked how about how “right now, AI companies are just gobbling up all of that material for free. That’s what the artists are calling theft. Do you think that should stop?” Farquhar replied:

I think that the benefits of the large language models and so forth that we’ve got outweigh those issues …

We have to work out what is fair use for these AI models. I don’t think it is nothing, that they can’t do anything. …

If someone had used my intellectual property to compete with me, then I think that is an issue, directly with me. If they’d used all the intellectual property of all the software on the world to help people write software better in the future, I think that is a fair use.

A version of you also dies when someone who knows of you passes away, a version never to be known of again. A bit of you that lived, laughed, raged, loved... remembered or forgotten. One, ten, a hundred of you. Is it that you worry what others think of you, or worry on what version lives in them?

I would hope that if GST were to apply to private health insurance, that the lifetime health cover would also be removed. We're basically penalised by the government for not taking private health, then to be forced to pay GST as well...

Around then, my parents started taking short vacations by themselves, meaning I had to do it all. Gave me a sense of responsibility because it was 'my' house for those periods. But yes, as a parent of a teenager too, our biggest annoyance is the inertia.

I remember being like that at the age of 16/17... content to let mum do everything, even though I knew how to do it all. It was more about the lack of need and a sense of no ownership rather than incapability.

And I hope you find it. Western mens 'fashion' is so mediocre. I've had to buy shoes marketed at 'women' just to find something interesting. It's like shoes, pants, jackets, or shirts are all just narrow reinterpretations of the same bland theme. It's all Beau Brummell's fault.

Screenshots tell a far less compelling story though. Like, "Yes my monitor has finger smudges on it - what of it?" makes for a far better citation then "As per figure 1"...

Been enjoying The Library Trilogy by Mark Lawrence... it's not going to rock your world, but what's not to love about fantasising about living in a library so old and large it's the last recognisable sign of civilisation?

Honest people don’t lie. Or do they? Liars aren’t honest. Or are they? One puzzling conundrum in contemporary politics is that politicians who seem to be estranged from facts and evidence are nonetheless considered honest by their followers. 1/n

Software companies become almost indistinguishable from ransomware after reaching certain levels of ubiquitous. If you wanted to do that to a whole country, being embedded into government systems without oversight, transparency, or clear exit strategies I think would be the perfect way to do it.
