Did you know my dad (Xum Yukinori) was partially color blind? So how did he managed to color all of his fanart? At first, pretty badly, until he came up with a "color scheme"...
From page 314 (yes, 314) of the Xum Yukinori commemorative artbook, "DOES THIS TRADE DRESS MAKE ME LOOK PHAT?":

WITHIN THE LINES: COLOR SCHEME

Xum had protanomaly color blindness, which made it
difficult for him to perceive the color red. As a result,
most colors tended to shift toward different shades of
green or blue in his eyes. So how was he able to color
his Line pieces and other works accurately?

Simply put: by cheating.

When Xum started coloring his pieces for The Line It
Is Drawn, he would pull his colors from scanned
images available on the Internet. For example, if his
piece featured Superman, Xum would find a color
image of a Superman comic book cover on the Inter-
net, open it in Photoshop, and then use the "eyedrop-
per" tool to select a color sample from an area of the
skin, hair highlight, and various pieces of the costume.
He would then use those selected samples to color
the corresponding areas of his Superman figure.
However, due to Ben-Day dot patterns, multiple
shades of digital coloring, or any pixel degradation on
the scanned images, Xum would sometimes select a
purple, grey, or even a brownish hue instead of the
intended Superman blue. Fortunately, Xum's wife,
Namiko, would usually point out any severe color dis-
crepancies before Xum would turn in his work. But
eventually Xum came up with an easier way to make
his coloring more consistent.

Through sheer luck, Xum had managed to acquire an
incomplete copy of the 1982 DC Comics Style Guide
from a clothing company client who used to license
the DC characters for their products but no longer did
- and thus had no more use for "that old clip art
book." The Guide contained a page of PANTONE
swatch colors used in DC licensing, so it was a simple
matter of recreating the swatch grid in Photoshop by
looking up the CMYK equivalents of the PANTONE
colors. Xum then made a color photostat of the Style
Guide swatch pages, and with the help of Namiko
determined which colors were used for the various

Following up on the last day of "CRISIS Month" with what I remember from a conversation I had with Dad about CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, which I initially posted on Twitter over 4 years ago in response to this post by "WednesdayComiXombie"... 1/
A Twitter post from "WednesdayComiXombie" on March 25, 2022...

So... #DCComics erased a great number of universes in comics when #CrisisOnInfinite Earths debuted back during 80's. If you were around when everything got folded into one, were you upset, excited, curious or frustrated w/ outcome? Did it erase work of previous creators? #SHPOLL22

July was technically "CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Month" in 1985, and with the release of the new Absolute Edition, is it also true for 2026. So before CRISIS Month reaches its end, I am sharing some of my dad's Crisis-related fan art done for CBR's "The Line It Is Drawn"...
A CRISIS ON CASTOFF EARTH fanart cover by Xum Yukinori, featuring the Post-Crisis DC Earth Continuity that was left behind after "The New 52" was created in 2011. The Wally West Flash, his daughter Irey in the Impulse costume, Spolier, Jade, Tempest, Donna Troy, the Cassandra Cain Batgirl, Mary Marvel, and Elastigirl and Negative Man from the Doom Patrol charge across a heavily damaged city block toward a mysterious shadowed enemy in the foreground, whose boot is the only thing we see.

Wally West screams at their opponent, "We've already lost so much -- YOU WILL NOT TAKE WHAT IS LEFT!"

A title in the lower right hand corner reads, "Rise of the Titans"Information about The Line It Is Drawn sketch challenge Dad drew the CRISIS ON CASTOFF EARTH cover for, plus his commentary, as published in his posthumously published commemorative artbook, DOES THIS TRADE DRESS MAKE ME LOOK PHAT?

51. CRISIS THEORY

ENTRY DATA

Line Week: 123
Date: January 24, 2013
Theme: "Post-Apocalyptic Comic Book Characters!": Since 2012 was supposed to have been the end of the world, let's get into the post-apocalyptic spirit by picking a comic character and our artists will draw them in a post-apocalyptic scenario.
Twitter Suggestion: rodtownsend suggested: Wally West, Donna Troy,
Stephanie Brown (and anyone similarly deNUded) hanging out at the end of the world.

COMMENTARY
This happened to be my 50th week on the Line (including tryouts), so I was already thinking of using an "LD" version of the DC Comics 50th year commemorative bullet logo from 1985, and the Crisis title associated with it, even before I knew what the theme was going to be. So it was quite serendipitous.

My idea was to reveal that the post-Crisis DC Earth still existed, but had been ravaged, with many aspects and characters taken away from it and altered to form the then-current "New 52" continuity. This "fake comic book" story would showcase who and what was left behind.

Many people believed that the "mystery villain" in the foreground was DC Comics co-publisher Dan Didio, who was a key instigator of the removal of these post-Crisis era characters from DC continuity. I let them keep on believing it ...Xum Yukinori fanart spoofing the CRISIS cover of AMAZING HEROES #91, replacing the DC characters with Archie characters.

Along with Pureheart the Powerful (Archie), Miss Vanity (Veronica), Captain Hero (Jughead), Superteen (Betty), and Evilheart (Reggie) from the "Super Teens" stories, Xum added other "alternate universe" Archie Comics characters: Geraldine Grundy of "The Awesome Foursome" from Faculty Funnies; Sharry the Spy Girl from "The Man from R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E." story in Archie volume 1, #610-613; Principal Waldo Weatherbee as the caveman King Be from the first "Archie B.C." story published in Archie volume 1, #9; Hot Dog as Bark-Man the Canine Crusader from Jughead's Pal Hot Dog #3; and Archie 3000 from the comic title of the same name. Sabrina the Teenage Witch is presumed to be from the "mainstream" Archie continuity.Information about The Line It Is Drawn sketch challenge Dad drew the AMAZING HEROES 91 spoof cover for, plus his commentary, as published in his posthumously published commemorative artbook, DOES THIS TRADE DRESS MAKE ME LOOK PHAT?

68. CRISIS ON ALTERNATE RIVERDALES

ENTRY DATA

Line Week: 146
Date: July 5, 2013
Theme: "Amazing Heroes Tribute!": In honor of the late Kim Thompson, the theme this week will be cover homages to Amazing Heroes (which Thompson edited for over a decade). Pick comic book characters and pick an Amazing Heroes cover and our artists will draw a cover homage of that issue with those characters.
Twitter Suggestion: KeithAlanMorgan suggested: Issue 91 featuring Archie, Veronica, and Jughead with other Archie characters in the background.

COMMENTARY
I have always liked the Archie Comics "Super Teens" stories, mainly because of how they would amusingly poke fun as super-hero comic book tropes.

Speaking of poking fun, my aped "Guess Who" signature is a nod to George Pérez's cheeky signoff on the cover of Crisis on Infinite Earths #3.

Hey, Uncle @fobpodcasts.bsky.social: EXTRA EXTRA! Did you know that a WONDER WOMAN-HULK team-up spinoff from the second SUPERMAN-SPIDER-MAN tabloid was initially planned as a DC-produced Treasury Comic? (CC: Uncle @robkellycreative.bsky.social). From THE COMIC READER #166:
An excerpt from page 1 of THE COMIC READER #166:

DC-Marvel News:

Those of you that believed that no more DC-Marvel collaborations would appear will be shocked to learn that the two companies have apparently signed contracts that provide for tabloid team-up comics to appear annually for the next four years. The second book to co-feature Spider-Man and Superman is slated to appear this year, and it will co-star TV stars Wonder Woman and The Hulk. Marvel will handle the production on the issue, with current plans calling for Roy Thomas to write and John Buscema to pencil, with Joe Sinnott mentioned as possible inker. Then in 1980, DC will take over production of a WONDER WOMAN-HULK team-up, obviously counting on both characters' ability to retain their TV shows. Whether Roy Thomas will attempt to clarify the exact plane of reality all of these books appear on to be decided.

Congratulations to $1,000 prize winner Beth Eikenbary of Boulder Creek, California for figuring out "Who Shot Danny Scott"... I don't believe they revealed the winners who figured out "Who Slew Kangaroo" and "Who Offed Henry Croft"--at least not in the published Eclipse comics... Maybe in TCBG...?
The cover of Eclipse Comics' WHODUNNIT? issue 1 (on sale June 1986), a brilliant fair-play mystery series by Mark Evanier and Dan Spiegle that offered a $1,000 cash prize (in a briefcase) to whomever solved the issue's murder mystery, the solution was revealed in the next issue. It sadly lasted only 3 issues.

The cover shows a bewildered bail bondsman Jay Endicott looking down at the prone dead body of Las Vegas showman Danny Scott, unaware of a masked gunman taking aim behind him...

Very cool! A print of my Dad's old #GLTAS fan art featuring my sister's own fan art (she was 6 when she drew it) signed by the voice of Aya herself, greydelisle.bsky.social ! Thanks to Uncle Neil for arranging this.
A print of 2018 fan art by my dad, Xum Yukinori, based on Green Lantern the Animated Series, created for "The Line It Is Drawn", a weekly comic book/pop-culture art sketch challenge feature on Comic Book Resources dot com. This particular challenge was to create a Mother's Day card for a comic book character suggested by a reader, and one suggestion was Aya from GLTAS. Though Aya was an animated character and not a comic book one at the time, Dad illustrated the suggestion as a mock comic book cover with the title "Razaya". The main image shows Aya's hands holding a hand-drawn mother's day card from her "future daughter" Ilana. The hand-drawn illustration was actually drawn by my sister, Xum's 6-year-old daughter Aika. It shows Aya holding an alien triangular flower and Red Lantern Razer holding a heart-shaped flower. A double arrow points between the two flowers with the words "Mommy loves Daddy" scrawled in crayon. Aya and Razer both have scribbled rocket flames shooting from the bottom of their feet which enables them to fly. The card reads, in crayon: "Happy Mommy's Day / Love Ilana". The print is autographed in luminescent green ink by Aya's voice actress Grey DeLisle-Griffin.A close-up of Grey Delisle's autograph, which includes the message: "Aika, The fire of our feet burns as strongly as the fire in our HEARTS!"

This must had taken place in one of those first comic book stores, because my Dad said that THE AMAZING WORLD OF DC COMICS was only available by mail order in 1976... (Thanks to @theearth2podcast.bsky.social for the photo.)
A 1976 black and white photo of a Black boy and a Caucasian boy sitting on the floor amid a pile of comic books, reading an issue of HOWARD THE DUCK. A magazine rack is behing them, which contains a copy of THE AMAZING WORLD OF DC COMICS fanzine that was only available via mail order, which makes me think this was taking place in a comic book store and not a newsdealer shop.

We were glad to back this. One of my mom's favorite books, illustrated by one of her favorite artists... ...but adapted by what used to be one of our favorite writers. Although Gaiman would not receive any proceeds, we're still a bit... ambivalent about reading it. At least we can enjoy the art.
A shrinkwrapped copy of Good Omens, the graphic novel, illustrated by Colleen Doran.

Hey, @satmornpod.bsky.social ... Check out Spotify A.I.'s attempt to add subtitles to the Zips shoes commercial from your recent "Meatballs and Spaghetti" episode... [Audio: You really need... Zips (shoes)]
A screenshot of the Spotify app as it uses A.I. to add subtitles to a recording of a 1982 Zips shoes commercial targeting kids and teens. The audio says: "You really need... Zips (shoes)", but the A.I. subs read, "You really need sex."
