This feature was primarily built by GitHub Copilot Agent Mode, which is a properly awesome feature 😄 I’ve been giving it a go since I got access to it through work, and I’ve been extremely impressed thus far. It has limits, but its *really* powerful.

A few days ago I happened to stumble across Dropset, which does literally everything I was going to do with my fitness app, but better! 😅 Being back on iOS has really opened my eyes to how good apps are over here 😄 the standard is so high and people really are doing incredible stuff.

‎Dropset is a clean and minimal tool for tracking your gym workouts, designed to be as non distracting as possible. You won’t find annoying upsells, or unnecessary options. There's simply what you need to set up your workout routine and your exercises and then track them at the gym. Also, it's super…

After several years of strongly and vocally disliking Figma, I am disappointed to report that I kind of understand why people like it. Unfortunately, I think I also may like it. More news at 6.

Don’t talk to me, my son, or my son’s son again. It’s actually kind of wild just how much smaller the new Mac mini is than the 2018 model 😳

Ordered a coffee, walked to pick it up, realised the Starbucks was closed. Turns out, the app had redirected me to a different store like 5km away without me noticing 😭

(8/8) I think that’s about it for now! I’ll probably keep posting more thoughts over the coming days, this definitely doesn’t encompass everything. Overall- loved it, hyped for the reboot series.

(7/8) Similarly, there are some writing and plot pieces that I think the series can improve upon given the benefit of hindsight, both from a continuity and writing quality perspective. The pretty weak twists at the end of the first two movies (with very little leading clues) comes to mind.

(6/8) Second - the movies were made before the books were finished, and it shows in some places. Ginny is largely cut from the movies until she becomes a love interest, seemingly because the writers didn’t realise how important she’d be down the track when writing the first few movies.

Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 05/03/2025
(5/8) Firstly, these movies need more time. The final two show how good they can really be if you give them time to sit and explore the themes well, and given the size of the books that’s just not palatable in cinematic form. A series where each book is a season seems perfect for this.

(4/8) The spells definitely get better as the movies go on, though. Ok, let’s talk about the upcoming reboot series. I know a lot of people are not happy about this, but I for one am pretty excited. My next few notes will hopefully explain why.

(3/8)… which was definitely good to get rid of by movie 3. I find the spells a bit funny, but I think that’s because I didn’t literally grow up with them. “Wingardium leviosa” being the name of the levitation spell is a prime example for me. It’s just kinda Latin-ified English 🤣

(2/8) The cast is stellar, and watching them literally grow up over the course of the movies is awesome. Movie 3 was incredible, and the time travel twist was just 💯chefs kiss. The first two movies suffered from a bit of “it’s me the villain, now that you’re here it’s time to explain my plan!”…

Last night I finished watching the Harry Potter series for the first time (yes I’m 21 and only just now getting to it, it’s a long story). Here’s my review/miscellaneous throughts! Post (1/8) First up: I loved it. I can see why it’s a classic, there kinda isn’t any bad ones.

Dolby Atmos on Apple Music has also come a really long way since I first tried in in 2021, in no small part because of how many artists are now mastering music for it. It’s not perfect, but boy it’s hard to go back.

I moved to AirPods 4 with ANC this weekend, and my one observation is that audio technology has come a 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 way since the AirPods 2 that I had. These new ones deliver really clear audio, and honestly rival my Sony 1000XM4 headphones. The biggest improvement IMO is the 4s deliver a lot more bass.

(seemingly) unpopular opinion: buses should not be able to depart early. In fact, all public transport should be, at earliest, on time. The number of times I have missed a bus that I’ve arrived in time for because it has departed like 5-8 minutes early is infuriating. #brisbane

Something I’m really enjoying about my iPhone is the camera button. The touch controls are gimmicky tbh, but the button itself is great. Something I liked about Android is that double-clicking the lock button brought up the camera, but this came at the expense of an awful google payment auth flow.

First 24 hours on iOS: - Is so pretty! 🤩Everything is very fluid - It feels good to have a mail app that actually deletes my mail - It’s very customisable now - Holy camera bump Batman!

The battery on mine was excellent at first (and still claims to be fine), but the issue I take with these reviews is that they don't account for 1 year later wear and tear. I had this with my Fold, where the screen just cracked after a year 🫠 everyone knows it, but the reviews didn't catch it.

I'm glad you have good experiences with the 16, I'm thinking about picking up a 16 pro purely for the camera. How do you find the camera button thingie?

Yeah I've heard anecdotally that Galaxies will last about a year and a half and then just drop off a cliff, and I can definitely attest to that. Bummer because I really don't want to buy a phone every year or two, which I have been since I switched to Android.

Galaxy S23. It's been pretty good until the last 3 months, when the battery life took a pretty steep dive and now barely lasts a regular workday where it just sits on my desk lmao. I think it's time to switch back to the dark side.

(15/15) So anyways, I now use my G1s all the time. They're comfy, funky but good looking, and really useful. I'll still keep the Metas, and will be interested to try their “rumored” glasses with a display. One thing that is clear to me though is that smart glasses are definitely the future 😎
010 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(14/15) The reason I find all-day wear-ability to be so important is that these glasses are not useful 24/7 like a phone, but when you need them, they're 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳 useful. The AI is the best example - you don't need it often, but when you do it's 𝘸𝘢𝘺 better than finding the app on your phone.
100 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(13/15) The G1s by contrast are way lighter, and have all the compute behind your ears, so they're super comfy. They're still a bit fatiguing after probably 5-6 hours, but are still miles more comfortable than the Metas. Weight distribution is definitely something important to consider.
100 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(12/15) Finally, I want to talk about all-day usability. To put it frankly, the Metas cannot be used all day, and the G1s are perfect for it. The Meta's a really heavy. I touched on this before, but they're fatiguing after like an hour, and because all the weight is on your nose, it 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘴.
110 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(11/15) There's a long-form thread I could write about how Meta's hardware products have been really limited by their pretty garbage and restrictive software (ironic for a software company, I know), but this is on full display with their glasses.
120 2
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(10/15) So, let's talk about the apps. Once again, the G1s nail this and the Meta's fumble it 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥. Even Realities app is fast, and promotes all the glasses function to the front. Meta's app is kinda trash, and promotes non-dismissable tutorial content on the homepage instead of actual features.
110 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(9/15) Feedback about stuff is core to these glasses working, and this is something the Metas just fail at, and the G1s are great at. I think part of this is the interface mechanism, and part of it is the 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 software Meta bundles with their glasses.
110 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(8/15) The issue? The Meta's often didn't work. Both devices struggle to remain connected to phones throughout the day (this is annoying but a problem with Android and iOS), but the G1s will tell you when they're disconnected. The Meta's just wouldn't work, so I often found myself talking to nothing
110 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(7/15) As for the AI, this is a tough battle. Functionally, the Meta's win this race. Having a camera available for context, and being able to trigger functions with the AI, was super nice. The G1s just handoff to ChatGPT or Perplexity, which is near for real-time but often lacks context I want.
110 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(6/15) I've found the G1s to be really awesome. They're still a bit finnicky, but a screen is a far better interface than audio, for just about anything. They have a little clip on sunglasses attachment that means they get really nice and dark, and I can use them in my car.
100 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(5/15) In my opinion, the Meta's are 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺. They never really blew me away in any particular area, and were really finicky. The transition lenses are neat, but don’t get particularly dark, so I found myself squinting all the time. They're also 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘺 which is fatiguing after a while.
110 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(4/15) Obviously, I'm not comparing apples to apples with these two glasses, but I think there's more overlap in feature then you may expect: both are ultimately productivity machines (despite Meta's marketing for the RBMs), both feature an AI assistant, and both tether to your phone.
110 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(3/15) The Even Realities G1 are a newer and smaller brand of smart glasses that trade the camera and speakers for 𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 that put a “screenx about 4m in front of your face. Oh yeah, they're exactly as cool as they sound. These are the ones I use daily, and we'll get to why.
110 1
Isaac Shea @isaacshea.com · 04/02/2025
(2/15) First of all, what are these two glasses? The RayBan Metas are pretty popular here on Threads, and are a wayfarer-style smart glasses with built-in speakers and a camera. They're advertised as a social media content machine, but I used them for light media playback and for the AI assistant

For the last four months or so I have been using smart glasses almost daily, and I thought I'd spend some time reviewing/talking about the two that I have used: the RayBan Metas and the Even Realities G1 😎 Spoiler alert: I really like the G1s. Time for a long-form thread! (1/15) 🧵👇

Interesting (and somewhat annoying) observation about GitHub Copilot: it 𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙨 to provide code completions when working with anything around the topic of gender. Even getting it to complete the word “gender” is nigh impossible. I can understand why, but it is pretty annoying 😕
