Four days ago a massive attack on Kyiv killed 19, including a 12-year-old boy and his mother; 61 were injured, seven of them children. Separately, a Russian strike hit Chuhuiv (Kharkiv region), killing three people including an 11-year-old boy, and nearly wiping out one family.

On this Memorial Day, I remember my dad, Joe Redlener, who died at 60 in 1976. But from Sept 1944 through 1945 he fought with the U.S. Army 104th Timberwolves division from the Netherlands, through Belgium into Germany where he helped liberate some of the most notorious Nazi death camps.
