That can't POSSIBLY be reliable. I'd imagine floppies were 360k because of the coarseness of the magnetic particles and trying to hackily upgrade it to a 720k disk would decrease its reliability tenfold.

From what I understand it basically half-compiles each C/C++ file, then when you go to link, it does optimizations just as if you had exactly one object file with all your code in it

If you're going to simulate the icache, you can just do the expansion during your icache miss code. Icache is notoriously slow to refill on the N64 anyway.

Really narrow case but if you have an 8-bit integer and you want the six copies to be packed into the same 64-bit register you can multiply by 0x010101010101 as long as you don't have anything over bit 7

I wonder if game consoles are losing their purpose. What made them stand out from PCs and phones (from my PoV): - Cheaper than comparable PCs - "Just pick up and play" ability - The former, but in terms of game downloads and updates not being a thing/being really rare - Hardware experimentation
