BBC 'stats' for forthcoming Boro v Milwall game. Points 1 and 2 are the same fact with different emphases. Point 3 relates to a different periodic form, and point 4 to the significance of 'Tuesdays' for match outcome. Point 5 seems to be about Preston not being as good under Neil as Milwall are. No insights re players, tactics, current form or recent information are included

Tired of hearing takes with context-insensitive hyper-focus on one academic competency. What are the things academics have to be good at? (Sing along if you know the words).
Some of the things we need to be good at include: being approachable to individual students; engaging with our students in seminars and lectures; explaining complex ideas clearly; navigating multi-layered bureaucratic processes; collecting and managing research materials; insightful interpretation; systematic analysis; maintaining collegiate relationships; supporting vulnerable young people; communicating with the public; working in partnership with other organisations; influencing policy-makers; working in teams; publishing our work according to disciplinary norms; publicising our work according to institutional expectations; replying to hundreds of emails; working to build community and continuity across nationally- and internationally- dispersed collaborative projects; managing a demanding diary; supervising student and mentoring junior colleagues; delivering project outcomes on time; managing and administering University procedures; assessing student work in creative and meaningful ways; examining doctoral work; benchmarking standards with other institutions; dealing with academic irregularities from students; supporting high standards of ethical integrity; supporting high standards of research integrity; developing new programs and courses; recruiting students; recruiting academics.

Lots of intellectual and interpersonal highlights (so many thoughtful ideas, so many lovely people) but the theatrical highlight was this intense and ineffable discussion between Dan and Themis, which they attempted to resolve via a series of drawings (which no one could see) 😆
Two men contemplating a flipchart. One man is pointing at a scribble, and talking into a microphone. One man has his back to the audience, obscuring half of the chart. Various audience members and the session chair look on. Something is happening, but what is it?

Beginning to worry that those of us speaking at the EPIC summer school tomorrow will struggle to meet the rising expectations as the venue ups the ante.

The US measure JBM uses for this is conceptually very different from the UK one. Ironic for a piece about measurement problems. And there's the usual post hoc fishing expedition - the left-right stuff bolted on by JBMf from different data sources.

Don't hate the yellow 3rd kit, but it's not a #Boro shirt really. But the colour of the home kit is basic first principles stuff.
The new Boro shirt appears to be pantone 186 or 187Boro red is pantone 485
