The past two years I've made it out to Hala Kahiki with a small group from the conference. Great convos and beverages.

Know it's little ol' me, but I just hit 1000 tickets created in Linear for @dewygolf.bsky.social; I'm astonished at the amount of work I've put in.

Part of building out @dewygolf.bsky.social is building a process and task management system that is flexible, able to work on multiple machines/droplets. Seeing the system churn on ~40k golf courses has been rewarding and very excited to see new courses come "on line" daily.
Screenshot showing multiple tasks registered for processing.

I’ve optimized the map collection process to the extent that what was initially expected to take 30 days for the entire USA can now be completed in less than 2 days. Still have more processing/learning to go, but most courses no longer need human intervention to create, understand and validate them

@dewygolf.bsky.social continues to build out the v1 maps. Looking at this one honking course in Florida I'm excited by the results and the future of golf maps. All that hard work is starting to show up and cannot wait for what's next.

If you’re in the Boulder area this evening, there’s boulderOS @ 7. Also fun is that it’s on Apple’s Community Events page. More information: boulderOS.com

Got my first (only) 1 star review because they don't want to pay for an app. Think this is the correct way to respond...
Screenshot of an App Store review. The customer said: It doesn't make sense for me to pay for it in Italian. John Marc replied with Howdy! Thank you for the feedback. Each version released requires hours of work to localize, market, and build new features. Every update includes work to ensure we are accessible to all users including those with vision needs. The latest version added support for more languages, saving frequent groups and improvements to the experience. The app description, intro and paywalls all mention that the first game is free, and is $3.99 (USD) / € 3.99 for unlimited use, free updates for life, and up to 6 members of an iCloud family to use the app with those same conditions for free. As an individual developer 1 am open to feedback and if you'd like to chat more about what I could add to make it worth € 3.99 in your mind I'd love to chat more. Feel free to email me at support@ioloro.com

This morning, I had a meeting with my sister to discuss a new project she needed for a thesis/class work. (She’s a nurse; I'm not) I quickly used @heygenai.bsky.social's Live Avatar to create a mockup of an experience and test the idea. About 2 hours of work and up and running.

Wild seeing Brazil/Portuguese overtake US/English for one of my side projects. Localization matters because people being comfortable in the app they use matters.
Two circle charts showing Brazil at 42% language distribution, over United States at 23%. Second circle chart shows 40% Portuguese over 35% English.

Cont. adventures in annotation. Playing with "ISpy" (don't sue me), where each annotation has it's own frame (crop is user set) can filter on confidence level and then you're off checking "is/is not". Been pretty fun. A few standard of living enhancements like hide/unhide and zoom.
Clay with a grid of parking lot imagery. Some boxes are marked as "is not" parking lots, some are marked as "is" parking lot.

As I get deeper into maps, I keep learning new, cool things about how to represent relationships of items to one another. i.e. golf courses have (typically) 9 or 18 holes, each has a tee box, and green.

It might sound familiar from my @deepdishswift.com talk, but being part of or interacting with the community you intend to build apps or services for is likely the most significant advantage you could look for.

Playing with different annotation interactions, attempting to improve speed and comfort. Now using a couple ML methods to detect contours, then be able to trim or add to the polygon with limited interaction. Probably need to make an iOS app with pencil support...
