Every so often I think about the take I saw from a popular poster asserting that the mythology of faeries is meant to be an explanation for things humans cannot/could not define, and therefore if you make faeries too “knowable”/well-defined in your urban fantasy fiction you’ve defeated the purpose.

Missed the bus I needed by two minutes and didn’t want to wait for half an hour, so I was walking home. Then the bus I wanted came around the corner, way early or way late, of course when I was nowhere near a stop. But the driver saw me, figured I wanted to be on the bus, and STOPPED FOR ME ANYWAY.

I made it to the blood lab only twenty minutes after they opened and 1. it is already a seventy-minute wait and 2. they can’t actually take my requisition form, because my doctor sent it to me over six months ago and told me to go in September or early October, and now it’s out of date. 🙃

Every so often you’ll get a rare married fun aunt and/or uncle combo where BOTH members of a childless relationship are extremely cool and fun, and they serve as a fun aunt/uncle partnership. Those ones definitely trend more to the “lavish gifts and non-normative empowerment” side of the spectrum.

My impression is that fun aunts tend to shade towards the former end of the spectrum whereas fun uncles tend to the latter, but neither is exclusive to gender and some people sit somewhere in the middle.
