Hi there - to all the nobody who actually sees and reads my posts. Chronic health flares cause brain fog, and ADHD exacerbates it. So here I am four months later remembering that this account even exists. #brainfog #chronicillness #adhd #invisibledisability #i'mnotjustforgetful

Far past time, actually. In fact, I switched to the fancy holiday version without even realizing it. #anxiety #mentalillness #exhausting

Even with jobs we can do on our own hours at home (i do sewing and alterations), there are times chronically ill people can't work because of symptoms flaring up. #chronicillness #ihatefeelingsick #nopto #nauseasucks

It's led to me learning more about how politics affect this type of thing, to sitting out when I want to be protesting or volunteering or something. Having to advocate for myself uses energy I'd like to put toward others. I think it's made me more determined but fear I'm also less effective.

Insomnia sucks. And it's far more common with chronic illness and mental illness of all sorts than most people realize. #Insomnia

Celiac makes it so hard to go out with family and friends. I've been asked to choose a restaurant for Christmas lunch with my family of 16, and while I'm grateful they understand and want to accommodate me, it's a lot of pressure.

There’s something ironic about people claiming some autistic people are “faking their autism”. As many of us were “faking” being normal for so long.

It's a reference to how often chronically ill people have "normal" lab results and our doctors act like it's great news and send us away still having no answers for our symptoms or treatments to help us.

One of the affects of having multiple chronic issues, especially when any of them fall under the #autoimmune category, is that it makes acute illnesses (cold, flu, etc.) harder on us. An otherwise healthy person often continues their day as usual, while #chronicillness + sick = absolute exhaustion.

Sharing to spread awareness. I have nearly 2 dozen chronic/invisible illnesses, and hadn't heard of this one. So many rare ones like this get overlooked. #chronicillness #disability #invisibleillness

It will cost you shallow friends who don't share your principles and values, but it will lead you to more like-minded friends and deeper connections with them.

Currently fighting a cold which causes that same effect for me. And then it's hard to eat or take meds because I can't smoke enough to ease the nausea. Here's hoping we can both breathe easier soon.

Much like deep breathing or gentle consistent movement or elderberry syrup, it can help some aspects, but doesn't cure anything, and especially not chronic illness and genetic disorders.

Wonderful meatsuits, and I love having them visit, and it is also sometimes overwhelming to my system.

Oh maybe this is the purpose of the mental box that my therapist wanted me to create, where I can put aside things I can't deal with yet to keep them safe until my next therapy appointment. I don't know if this qualifies but it's at least similar in purpose and action.

If I started crying right now, I might not stop for a while, and it would make my head hurt more, increase the snot factor by unknown amounts, turn up the nausea again, boost the anxiety of ruining things, and exhaust me. So I step away and try to ignore it.

And I feel the emotions build and the tears start to form, that burning behind my nose that says I'm gonna cry, but I guess I can be grateful in a way that I've learned over the years how to swallow those tears and push through as often as possible.

And I'm putting it here because I'm hoping a thread of summing up my day dealing with #chronicillness while family is staying with us and others are joining us in a few hours and I just want to host a nice dinner like i used to.

Trying so hard not to "ruin" things, but just as I try to get to work again a strong smell turns up the nausea. So I'm hiding again (overstimulation is not helping, and grandkids are sensory output in a meatsuit), and just hoping the food can actually get done close to on time.

We mask our symptoms & reactions from others all the time. I just realized I'm masking from myself now. #chronicillness is slowing down my cooking for our harvest dinner, & I'm pushing down my feelings because strong emotional reactions will only make the physical things worse right now. #disability

Why is it so effing hard to shower sometimes? And why don't we talk about how chronic illness affects things like that?

Just FYI, if you were expecting there to be some sort of schedule or consistency to the posts here, you must not know much about chronic illness. Between feeling bad physically and feeling bad mentally and having poor memory, I just post when I can and think about it. #chronicillness #disability

When your list of chronic illnesses is so long you can't remember them all, and they get tired of taking turns flaring up so they decide to have a party, but a gathering of chronic illness flares is not a fun party, at least not when your body the venue. #disability #chronicillness

Audiobooks count as reading. There are so many reasons one might choose audiobooks: to read while driving or running or bicycling; to read while cleaning or cooking or showering; to read without lights on; because they're unable to comfortable hold a book; poor vision; or maybe they just want to.

I was a psych inpatient for a bit many years ago, and I remember a fellow patient complaining about the safety mirror in her bathroom "because I'm already seeing shit, i don't need a funhouse mirror to make it worse".

Sooooo not sustainable.
This is a cream-colored background with a simplistic drawing of a person sitting cross-legged, with long hair and their hands over their face. Writing above says "Disabled people often have no choice but to become advocates in order to survive and get what they need and that's not sustainable."
