I love The Diplomat so much! Still in Season 3 but it’s so good - on a second watch.

Omg actually saaaaame, and I was such a huge fan of that show. Without spoiling it for others, when “somebody sedate me” “he’s not the sun you are” dancing around character left, the show felt emptier for me. I loved her so so much. What an incredible depiction of female friendship 😍😍

This is the most accurate metaphor for how I’m feeling ever. I always drag myself to the end of tv shows even when they’re not as good as the first season/s because I want to see the ending, even if she show starts to really fkn suck lmao yes yessss

that I haven’t bought into that. I understand if your responses were in the heat of the moment & please do let me know if that’s the case. Otherwise, we’ll probably be better off blocking each other because this way of interacting doesn’t feel good for me ✌️

It doesn’t feel like you’re coming at this in good faith & whether intentional or not, you’ve got some straw man fallacies going on in your replies. You’re making assumptions about how I feel that aren’t actually what I’m saying e.g. I’m waiting for the NRs to come out when one of my main points was

thank youuuu! I really was catching myself in the “I’m the only one oh no!” story. What’s great is that the facilitators in my therapy training would always respond to negative assumptions like this with “do you want to check that out with the group?” & it seems I’ve internalised their voices!

Thank you Amanda!! I agree that the “playing two sides” part of her art is so intriguing, it’s part of why I see her as a mastermind. It feels like the two different messages are just getting further & further apart these days and there’s a tension in that (that hopefully will mean it snaps soon?)

Also I’d ask that you please provide content warnings when speaking about this kind of thing online. It definitely is a horrible behaviour that needs to be called out, but I’d appreciate a CW for topics like these.

I feel like I’ve provided multiple examples of why I’m disappointed in Taylor’s actions, not just the actions of men she’s affiliated with. I agree with you that she’s expressed toxic ideas of love before, I just see the recent ones are worse because of the context surrounding them.

Hey Ally, it feels like I’ve hit a nerve here. This topic is important to me & I want to have a constructive conversation. I’m wondering what you think I’m saying here when I’m critiquing Taylor? Because I’m not saying “women are their husbands” but that seems to be what you’re hearing me say.
170
Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 17h
Yes 100%! This recent like is just another thing to throw onto the pile of I Hate It Here in the Showgirl Era.

Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 17h
Being the damsel that’s rescued in TFOO (instead of “you don’t need to save me, but would you run away with me?”), using the word “bitch” in a derogatory way on TLOAS after how much that word has hurt & enraged her (rightly so). I could go on. But Taylor has done enough by herself imo.
1100
Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 17h
Is being expressed in her own actions in TLOAS era. Having her engagement at the end of the credits for a docuseries about the biggest tour in human history, talking about how dangerous Travis’ job is & comparing it with her choosing what verses to sing of Shake It Off, cuddling w Brittany Mahomes,

As many other things, sends the message that they are excusable actions. Even if, in private, she told him how deplorable those things are. Because of Taylor’s influence as one of the biggest popstars in the world (and especially because I believe she’s not actually in love with these men but they

Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 17h
I get you. A husband’s actions aren’t the fault of his wife. But Taylor’s proximity to men by dating them (or marrying them) has an influence on what ppl think she condones. Dating a man after he did the N*zi salute on stage or admitted to watching racist p*rn, as well

Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 18h
TL;DR - it’s shitty that Travis liked that misogynistic monologue, it’s shitty that Taylor is his wife & therefore is connected to this behaviour, I don’t know if the ends justify the means because the “ends” aren’t in sight yet. But also WE. SHALL. SEE. because I’m still here.

Story that I’ve completely made up in my head. I imagine that it’s the latter. I also know that what I’m saying here doesn’t feel like the popular way thinking & I noticed today that in these moments where I feel so different from the crowd, I can fall into patterns of just keeping my thoughts &

patterns of giving people the benefit of the doubt or putting them on a pedestal. That’s my own, very subjective process in terms of how I relate to Taylor & the NR conversation at large. I wrote this post because I’m wondering if I am in fact feeling these feelings all by myself or if that’s a

Is going to act a mirrorball to my psyche, our brains are wired to continue to project our past onto our present. And my scepticism of Taylor & continued practice of seeing her as a flawed human who pisses me off sometimes feels like an active way of making sure I’m not falling back into old
1550
Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 18h
And I genuinely think that theres still a very real possibility that I’m doing that with Taylor. I’m still here, aren’t I? I think that always has to be a real possibility when I’m assessing my connection with people whose actions don’t match my idea of them. And I’m also aware that everyone in life

Therapy (or through other means) knows that assuming the best intentions was a behaviour they had to unlearn in order to heal. I was in a 5 year long relationship for 3 years longer than I should’ve been because I have such a dogged, over-active ability to see the best in people. And they know it.

Giving people in power the benefit of the doubt, without transparency, feels dangerous to my nervous system. And, on a personal level, it’s how I’ve ended up in situations where I’ve been taken advantage of and manipulated. Any child of an emotionally immature parent who has processed things in

for their money in terms of spelling out the basic tenets of feminism to the widest population possible. But until we’re there, until I can see that she’s positively influencing the masses with this thing, I’m going to hold some doubt & hold her to a standard that I’d want to hold anyone in my life.

Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 18h
Like that shit doesn’t sit right with me. And maybe one day it will, if she switches things up pretty fkn soon & denounces that thinking & makes art that’s like “oh shit I fell into some dangerous patriarchal ideas in that marriage” & spells it out to the masses & really gives the Barbie movie a run

Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 18h
I’m consuming content that is full of lies. I might know the lies are there, but it’s not as enjoyable in the Showgirl era. Because it feels like the messaging is SO YUCK. SO SO GROSS. The trad wife, anti-feminist, “that’s my husband”, “his job is so dangerous & I’m just choosing songs to sing”.
1832
Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 18h
But the Showgirl era has been hard for me & if TS13 wasn’t next (and I wasn’t so curious about what will happen with her lucky number record), I don’t know how active I’d be. Even seeing behind the “lipstick & lace”, watching The Man behind the curtain, doesn’t stop some part of me feeling yuck that

Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 18h
A part of me is watching the show because I think her way of interacting with Hollywood is so unique, so full of performance art & using the industry to benefit herself. She is a mastermind & saw how to manipulate the systems of PR from such a young age & I’ll always think that’s bad ass & so cool.
1721
Tess @invisiblethemes.bsky.social · 18h
I do think that she has a good heart otherwise I wouldn’t still be connected to her in the way that I am - but I also hold that belief in myself lightly because my bias towards her has benefited her financially in many ways, including making so much content about her (continuing to stoke interest).

I really love being in this space on BlueSky but sometimes I feel like an outsider. I don’t give Taylor the benefit of the doubt, I don’t know if she’s using her power for good behind closed doors in elite spaces, I don’t know if she’s working with other artists to slowly make meaningful change.

But in all seriousness, her at the gym in the Eras docuseries was the first image that came to mind when I saw Travis’ like. Regardless of whether ppl think it’s purposeful or not, this is So Bad for the young girls who idolise the Tayvis relationship & the Swifties will be making excuses for him.

When I see accomplishments like this, it reminds me of the level of success she has achieved on so many scales/metrics & how much our lens is an important piece but definitely not the only piece or even the main piece of this legacy she’s weaving. She is reaching stratospheric levels of accolades 🤯

Coming back to this, they could’ve edited that last part out right? Like cut the clip from Jason saying “sounds delicious” and then start it again at Jason’s topic change. If I’d had an uncomfortable moment where I kinda looked pissed off in a pod ep that I control, I’d for sure cut it out.

Mate this reply made my day! Thank you. It’s been years of work unlearning the habit of staying in my head and learning to let my body’s sensations speak - such an important part of my work as a therapist now. And it’s a full circle moment because now I’m helping clients do the same 🥹🥹🥹

To start to get people talking about the issues that the couple might be having. Ooft that moment at the end is still in my body - it was so cold & feels like how someone speaks when they’re not wanting to show a difficult emotion.

Oooh that last few seconds is kind of chilling - “I’d like to just keep it moving” after being prompted to share anything else about presents or anything. Almost like Jason was thinking there was a PR point to hit & reminding Travis to hit it. Or could be a deliberate uncomfortable moment
